If it were anyone other than Tom id say its stupid but Tom can do no wrong in my eyes.

I'm the ultimate fan boy!

I could think of better things to pass the time if I was out with a knee injury. :p

But then, Lotto's TV ad here in Belgium has "no balls, no glory". Somewhat lacking in good taste.

EDIT: sign of the times, isn't it, now I think about it, that the actual product takes up a tiny box in the least important bit of the composition.

Yes, I have to agree. If I were even considering a Merckx, this might actually be enough to keep me away from the company.

So has Boonen - and his real off-bike pastimes would make for much better ad copy!

Although the ad is indeed rather dumb, it is kinda funny to see Tommeke with all that 'blood' on his mouth looking like a fainting vampire :p

as if cannibals only eat RAW meat, what a cliche! Does Boonen get his blood from Austria or Spain?

Actually Lightspeed had a print ad a few years ago showing someone on one of their bikes going down the road, leaving a dead possum or racoon behind. Guess some marketing genius thought the suffering and death of "road kill" was pretty clever and would sell bikes

Decency

I have to agree; that is just wrong! I don't even try to guess where the boundaries for decency are anymore.

What's funny is I've always thought, going back to the 80's, that Merckx bikes really stand out visually; some have been straight-up stunning. I guess a great photo of a good looking bike just doesn't work anymore?

Rumor

I heard Eddie sold the company thus having nothing to do with the advert.

From the company's perspective, hating the advert is a good outcome. It reminded you about the Merckx brand instead of Orbea, Ridley, etc. The worst possible scenario is an advert that you pass right by with no opinion either way.
