um. Caleb Fairly is from Amarillo, TX. I was standing at the finish line as he crossed.

And anyone who says that race isn't difficult needs to ask someone who's actually competed in the pro event. The Fly V boys drilled it at the front and made almost everyone pay. Except for Caleb (Holowesko), Landis, Kemps (Fly V) and Damiani (KENDA Pro Cycling).

Harder than Gila? really?

done both. Gila much more difficult. Bisbee harder also. Super Week by far the hardest race in the US. If they ever brought back the Mammoth Mtn Classic it would it would resurge in popularity. One huge problem with Battenkill is early registration and field size. US racing officials are squeamish. The field should be 150-200. Earlt registration fills lots of spots with guys who get creamed in the first 15 miles..but they go home with the pride of saying they did it. I wouldn't be surprised if it they divide age groups even deeper. Pro 1,2 35+,45+ those feilds would fill also. The volunteers at the race are as good as any I have seen it's like 90% of the town gets out to help.

Hard to believe there is a tougher race.... 180 starters and 50 something finishers last year. Did you finish the Battenkill UCI race??? (their Pro/Am is a completely different race as I understand it)

Also, Gila is a stage race and television coverage in America is non-existent for cycling unless Lance shows up (and even that demand is pretty low these days).

Number of finishers can mean one of two things of course, tough race, or weak feild. ;)

Or, in the case of a race like the Tour of California and the 50 or 60 final day DNFs, total apathy.

Or, in the case of a race like the Rund um Frankfurt, short finishing circuit meaning those outside the first chasing group pulled off the course to prevent getting in the way.

or it could just be a pro race. Where the pride of 50th or 51st place is not at issue. Hardest 1 day race I have done in the US is Nevada City. Hardest european race is campus race near Munster Germany dead flat and windy as f$ck. Does Pro am mean pro,1,2? Henninger Turm, Hockenhiem and Rund Nurnemburg all had national teams if memory is correct. Once the money is gone DNF is normal and if they are paying 50 deep I wouldn't work a regular job.

Yes Pro Am 1,2 but this race has come along way in a short time. UCI 1.2

Of course, or good beer at the finish line. Not a bad lineup for a 3 year-old pro race, though.

The Pro Am is a little different than the UCI race, the P/A is 1 lap and has a 1/2 field and age categories. The UCI is invitation only and two laps. The weather played a big part this year in the UCI race, it was nasty... I don't know anything about the Pro Am 1/2 event, it was the week before the UCI race.

And yes, they volunteers and organizers were awesome to work with, made everything super easy on the teams.

Battenkill Pro/Am is a DIFFERENT race the weekend before (only 82 miles and is Pro/1). UCI race is 200k then 2nd weekend. Looks like they've added a women's pro race too.

While there are national teams in Frankfurt, Hockenheim and Nürnberg, they are all Continental Pro teams. The former is .1 starting next year (.HC until then) and the others are .1; the smallest teams racing it are on the same level as Colavita or Jelly Belly. On the other hand, the thing about the money and giving up once you're out of the paying positions is very true and fair.

Once you've done your designated job in the race and given it your all you're done for the day... You're working for the team leader, not yourself. Love to see Deiter make this race even more difficult.

This race is growing like CRAZY! It keeps getting bigger and better. It's not far from our house - if anyone is planning to come and wants a floor to crash on (and doesn't mind two lovable cats) you are welcome to contact me about staying with us. (adults only, no smoking please!)

We've never been to it but will go this year after hearing all the buzz about how great it is.
