In that one indeed Vino, he was very strong in 2003.

But from the modern ones obviously Evenepoel, he was 10 minutes in front of the rest.

Then next one Thomas who was also by far better than the rest.

And then the others, that were the rest.

But Carapaz only lost time to 2nd in the ITT's. And kept up with 1st on several MTF's. Arguably more competitive than Evenepoel was in 24.

Carapaz is the only rider to stay with Pogacar and Vingegaard. Easy answer.
See your point. Although:
Thomas kept up on Alpe d'Huez and PDBF,
Yates dropped Pog on Loze 23', and won a stage.
Evenepoel beat both in ITT.
Lipowitz actually attacked them before La Loze 25 and kept up on la Plagne.

Carapaz was much closer to his own prime then than either Pogacar or Vingegaard were to theirs in 2021.

Remco 24 was the best of the Pogacar era but Vino 03 wins it for me.

Geraint Thomas rode like he was the only person in the race, not something you see much, like Gall yesterday but for 3 weeks, more memorable than his tour victory.

On the contrary, I think Thomas' ride in 22 was the most forgettable podium this decade. Perhaps Kruiswijk 19' (!) can compete.

I do wonder why Froome can’t get near the aliens in the mountains when Carapaz, who was gifted an unassailable lead in his only grand tour win, could.
Anyway, probably Vino

Pretty unrelated to the topic, but most likely because he had a massive crash and was getting old.

I meant more in hypothetical prime v prime he’s barely given a podium chance which I think is silly. Sorry to Digress yes it is off topic
People think that "watts are watts" which is nonsense when comparing different era's. If he didn't crash he would probably have podiumed behind TP and JV. He was clearly a better rider than Thomas and Carapaz.

Porte '20. I genuinely didn't think he could do it. He'd always overraced, crashed out, lost form, but the pandemic-truncated season forced him to arrive at the Tour before he'd blown himself up. And at 35, the man who had been the least inspiring Grand Tour team leader in living memory, a dour, characterless rider whose only ever moments of interest as a leader in such races had been brought to a screeching halt - literally - by a race motorbike after about 100m, turned into the man most likely to add excitement to the race. It was like he had one final chance to actually deliver something at a Grand Tour after a decade of being hyped up as a contender and having only two top 10s, one of which had been with a 13 minute time bonus as a neo-pro, to his name... and the man most afraid of losing turned into the man most likely to take risks to gain.

Yes, it was truly nice to see. But the scope of the question was behind the two aliens - Primoz Roglic is a human like you and me - as he showed on stage 20 of that tour.

I too agree Roglic was the most exciting rider in last years' Tour

My vote is for Simon yates in 2023 but unfortunately he finished 4th. More impressive than Adam though

Vino in 2003. He gained time on Armstrong & Ullrich on AdH, Gap and Loudenviele mountain stages and was just 18'' (!) behind Lance before the decisive mountain stage to Luz Ardiden (where he cracked).
