Best Inline Gear Cable Adjuster

Im currently using Jagwire J2 inline adjuster on my bike but,it keeps losing adjustment when you turn the bars.
Im running Campag SR with my cables running round the back of the handlebars, and the action of turning the bars moves the outer cable, which in turn affects the adjuster.
Which adjusters have other people found to be best ?

In all honesty, the best thing you could do is to forget about inline adjusters. If you know how set up your drivetrain properly there's absolutely no need for them.

How do you get tension on the front derailleur cable without an inline adjuster then?

Pull the cable tight when you install it. I just did this on my Ibis cx, I mean just like an hour ago. And it works perfect, imagine that.

Sounds a pretty random hit n miss way of attempting to get tension in the cable.
Id rather have an adjuster to get the tension spot on rather than a bodgy attempt to get it nearly right!

I have three bikes and none have adusters on the gear cables (the CX bike also does not have them on the brakes) and I have had no trouble installing and adjusting cables. My previous bikes also did not have adusters. For fine adjustment I use the screws on the deraileurs.

All my bikes use Shimano Ultegra or 105 but maybe adjusting may be an issue with Compagnolo SR gear.
However from your description it sounds like your cables are too short.

You know, I'm not the one hitting up forums asking why my crap doesn't work. Food for thought.

I'm glad I don't have cowboys like you touching my bikes then.
I'm sure you probably do "make do" with you're hit n miss methods of adjusting tension.
I won't bother asking for other people's advice in this place again if its full of senior members like you.
I'll remember to tell my superiors that a bit of guesstimation is ok the next time I'm working on an aircraft!

Don't need adjusters. Use the barrel adjust for the RD and adjust the FD properly and you won't need to have one.

Adjust the FD with the chain in small ring and big cog in back. Have chain just tickle the FD inner cage. Pull cable tight, push thumb button down a wee bit, hold cable tight, tighten fixing bolt. THEN turn inward limit screw about 1/2 turn, which does move the FD inward about 1mm..Then you will have the FD lever, 3 clicks to big ring. Then screw outer limit screw in so it just touches the stop.

Too often an adjuster makes the cable too tight, in that it changes the starting position of the FD, which effects the end position.

Of the bikes I sell, never use an adjuster.

BUT if ya gotta have one, the Jagwire one with the thumb knob works well.

Thanks for the constructive solution to achieving tension on the FD without using inline adjusters.

If you mean "it sounds like your cable housing is too short", I agree. Turning the bars in a normal fashion shouldn't have a significant effect on cable tension.

Yes - that is what I meant.
