BEST Nicknames

So... we have a thread for worst nicknames. Why not one for best nicknames?

Here are a few of mine, no particular order.

Der Panzerwagen:
Put the German tank (who happens to be a cop) at the front of the peloton and there will be pain! You'd definitely not wanna get in the way.

Captain America:
After seeing pictures of the comic-book character I'm getting more and more convinced that DZ actually might've designed his TT skinsuit after the character. And he's crazy enough to do it!

The Ox from Hammel:
He might have inherited his name from a schetch-show character. But the more I look at his riding style the more I realize: He really is like an ox! Bit of bonus info: When he firts had his breakthrough he felt as if he should be the calf from Hammel. But now, being 26-year-old and a dad himself I think he's definitely an ox!

Thor the god of thunder:
Of course someone named Thor is bound to get such a name. And he really is rather impressive...

in my opinion, most nicknames are silly. the best nicknames are simple and almost indistinguishable from a real name. examples like those above, to me, are pretentious and unwieldy.

a person with a good nickname is "cheju" rubiera.

Well... that's where we differ in opinions. Personally I think those nicknames which are just shortened versions of a name are rather boring.

I agree that most nicknames are silly and I don't really like them. Things like "Bottle", "Cuddles" or "Candy" are great because they're short and to the point, but stuff like "the god of thunder" makes me cringe. That said, I'm not sure "Chechu" counts as a nickname. It's the normal familiar form of "José Luis" - like calling Danielson "Tommy."

I knew it! :D That guy is completely, utterly nuts! And that of course leads us to another nickname of his...

The Ox from Hammel is Chris Anker Sørensen.

Also

Fish:
During the Saxo survival camp two years ago they had this task in which they were to swim underwater out to a marker (or something) He basically scared his, back then new team, quite a bit by staying under a little longer than expected.
He is a former triathlete after all.

i did not know that. you and RHD are right, then. it doesn't qualify as a good nickname.

A friend calls Baby Schleck "My little one trick pony" in honor of his inability to descend, TT, sprint, bike handle, etc.

Schleck is a decent descender, but I'm sure your friend is right, he only has 3 second place finishes in the tour before 27 years old.

Denis Menchov - because he kisses the ground each time he visits a new country ;)

I never would have guessed Denis. But appropriate. Well then, I have to agree with Hitch... that's a great nickname.
(I guess I should have read the earlier posts first tho)

I see Il Falco is there... good.

How about The Cossack? That name just stirs up images of havoc.

I agree with Il Falco, was going to post that too.
