That is it for me. I'm adding Rui Costa and Nairo Q to the poll options, although I don't think you could make a case for either of them.

Froomes wins are much more important than Nibalis. It does not matter if one might like Nibalis style better. So by far Froome takes it. For me Cancellara is second with two big monuments and more and Nibali is third but those two are close.

CQ Ranking certainly has it as close as you can get. I do think it's a pretty clear Froome win though given that Nibbles failed to get a big win in the second half of the season.

At least he contended for wins on the second half of the season . . .

The best rider of the season shouldn't struggle to finish races after july, rather not race like Contador in 2009 than make a fool of yourself.

1- Nibali
2- Froome
3- Cancellara
4- Rodriguez
5- Rui Costa/ Quintana (both had great seasons)
7- Sagan (no monument win, no worlds win, only one GT stage)

Froome, without any doubt, come on, how can you rank a victory in the Giro higher than a Tour victory?

1. Froome
2. Nibali
3. Cancellara
4. Purito
5. Costa

1. Purito
2. Froome
3. Nibali

I will stick with UCI ranking with small change. Ranking is not perfect but still better then nothing.

For me, Purito is well deserved winner as the most consistent rider for whole season, competitive both in stage and one day races.

If the Tour really means so much more comparing the other races I wish UCI change the points classification accordingly so it is fair to everybody.

Based on quality of wins and the manner in which those wins were achieved I would say.

1. Froome
2. Nibali
3. Cancellara
4. Quintana
5. Purito
6. Sagan

edit: Added Quintana in, moved others down a spot

RVV/PR double, no doubts for me, Spartacus.
Have to mention Tony Martin TT champ and epic Vuelta stage 7th place.
Chris Froome obviously, our visitor from planet dawg,
and Peter Sagan 23 years old, GW and brilliant TDF green jersey .

It's quite amusing the way everyone has already erased Chris Horner from their memory as if it never happened (quite rightly imo). I'd also certainly have Dan Martin in the poll instead of Valverde. That said my vote goes to Cancellara, mainly because I am biased towards the cobbles rather than him being any more deserving than Froome or Nibali.

I think it is not so much the tour as to other races, but the points for winning a race compared to second/third are too close. Second should only be 50% of points of winner of a race.

To be frank, call me Frank, I actually liked Pipo Pozzato's season very much ;)

Looking at the stats I go for Valverde though, not that I like him but he was pretty good. Boring of course but that is the nature of the beast.

To be fair to the list, it's the top seven in the World rankings plus Costa, who would be sixth if he got 100 points for the Worlds. (Dan Martin is 8th)

NIBALI by far is the best rider of 2013.

The man rode from January all the way to Lombardy-rode two GT-won one & 2nd place- two one-week stage races (T-A & Trentino) - rode to win the WRR, I mean- Nibs just can't be stopped:D

Candidates for 2nd place? Quintana & Purito.

Personally I would not consider a rider without a single win at World Tour or HC level all year a contender as best rider on the planet but it's a personal view and one which I am sure not many agree with. If Valverde is going to be in then so should Greg Van Avermaet in my opinion.
