What would happen if an athlete with Bolt style differences to the norm in terms of body hieght etc arrived in cycling with an abnormal VO2 max say 98 so pushing reality but only 4 or so higher than lemond. If he dominated for example climbed Alpe d huez in 35 mins and did a 10 mile tt at 34 mph would posters accept a phenomenon and a new Bolt style moving of the goal post or would you blame doping motorised bike etc

35 mins flat for Alpe d'Huez is 2 minutes faster than Pantani at his peak. Completely insane to think it's even remotely possible clean. This belongs in the clinic IMO.

i think the op means some body out of the cylcing norm. usain bolt is well ouside of the norm on the 100m and a little on the 200m where most guys that dominate are between 5'9"-6'0". so lets say that somebody outside of the norm will be a miguelon or cancellara type of rider breaking climbers like contador and sastre. but since cycling is not as specific as sprinting we would never notice. i think rider like freire and cav. are outside of the norm as they can contest and win some of the classics and gt sprints. i mean neither is your typical boonen cancellara or hushov body type. indurain was kind of outside the norm as he stayed with the climbers on mountain finishes. some even claim that he gifted climbers on some stages. but then again there is not that much outside the norm in cycling because it is not as specific as t&f.
