Boonen VS Cancellara

it's coming... the 2 best races of the year with perhaps the 2 most talented riders ever for this sort of terrain.

when both of them are in great form, we know that the race is going to be amazing.

boonen started as a true boss for cobbled classics and sprint, a true prodigy. however tom's career has suffered due to injuries, tom's mentality etc.

cancellara started as a TT boss, and since then he is getting stronger and stronger. however fabian's career has suffered because he does not have "his own team", his own support, like tom, contador, phil at lotto, valverde etc.

fortunately for us, when boonen feels good, cancellara does not have to worry that much because of his weak team. unlike hushovd and riders like alike, boonen is a true warrior and he races like one, so when both (tom and fabian) are ok, they tear the race apart.

the amazing thing this year is that, suprisingly, boonen isn't feeling good. he is feeling great! tornado tom is back(i hope)! great attacking, strong sprinting.. our warrior is back!

both monuments have this year, since a long time, the potential to be as epic as a cycling race can get.

for me, this can be, for the next 5 years, the best 1vs1 battle that the sport as ever known.

let's just hope they stay healthy until the end of their careers!

who is going to win this year's battle? tom or canc? personally, i don't care that much who wins, as long as they do what they do best... destroying the field.

If the Swiss is on form, the Belgian doesn't stand a chance.

cancellara has been amazing..

but if you follow the sport at least since 2004, you should know what tom can do.

Cancellara had a great team until 2010. Saxobank was almost Quick-Step's equal in the classics.
It's not like OPQS was great today... I mean, they were completely gone after the Taaienberg and Cancellara had 2 helpers there. It's due to bad luck and Cancellara himself he had none left in the end and OPQS suddenly had half their team there. (Cancellara brought them back himself).

they had boonen and chavanel and terpstra 30k from the finish on the first group. i would say thats more then enough man power for such a late stage of a classic

Mamma mia! I just tossed that one out there to get a response. :D

Well, then, unfortunately, unless Boonen has all his rockets firing, I fear that Cancellara simply charges ahead and drops the Belgian, as we witnessed before.

What race did you watch? The only reason why Chavanel didn't make the first cut was because he had to change his bike at the foot of the Taaienberg and Trentin had to wait for Chavanel to help bring him back... Ilijo Keisse did a lot of work before the race went live, so it was only normal he didn't make the cut after that. They were unbelievably strong today and Radioshack was total CRAP like usual. Tony Gallopin did ok though, but that was pretty much it apart from Cancellara.

They recovered very well in the final. But the fact remains that after the Taaienberg, when two groups came together. There were 3 Radioshack riders and only 1 of OPQS (boonen himself).
That could have gone very wrong

Just stating a fact here.

And here's another fact: Cancellara got ZERO help from his team again. Quick-Step was a lot stronger here. In fact, he was the only Radioshack rider to finish in the front group

You can't use the bad luck card for Cancellara and then ignore all the bad luck Quick-Step riders had during this race.

You seem to fail to distinguish the difference between fact and fiction. Cancellara definately got help from his teammates. Not only Gallopin, also Bennati, Rast and even Popovych. But after all the bad luck when they were trying to bring him back they burned up pretty quickly.
To say he got zero help however is a flatout lie. Sorry.

True about how Cancellara had a team today ( Gallopin did well ) but Boonens' team would have set him up for the Taaienberg and they eventually rejoined ( which you know ). I thought both of the teams were strong today.

Cancellara brought him self back. He got very little help from his team today yeah. Bad luck? He wasn't the only rider to have bad luck. A lot of Q-S rides had bad luck as well, as I just mentioned. You seem to have also forgotten that Chavanel was back in the front group before Cancellara was

Chavanel played a key role in Boonen's victory.

Great thread/ intro.

You are forgetting about the CE VS BW ITT showdown though in the TDF this year:eek:

... and the Vuelta. Worst is that if Brad wins he'll even think he deserved it.

1. If he wins, he deserves it.

2. WTF has it got to do with this thread?

3. Your guy got busted and is out of it for a few years - get over it.

It is a very good thing for our enjoyment of these races that Boonen seems to have rediscovered his form and edge, I am not going to criticise him for having a bit of a party for er quite a while but it's good to see him back and looking strong.

Again another thread hijacked by Contador talk by you know who.

The guy is history until August and so get over it. If you want to continue to talk about it, go to the clinic. And whoever wins a Grand Tour deserves it and whoever cheats for it does not deserve it. And we all know why you hate BW is because he criticised Sir Bertie. He spoke the truth and you cant take it. Now move on. Lets talk about the good things in cycling.

Jesus you're making me sick. I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION HIM UNTIL WINTERFOLD DID.

And I'll keep on talking about Alberto no matter what you say. It's bull**** that the only place where I can talk about him now is the Clinic. And besides, even if I talk about him there you attack me. We already know you hate him so just **** off.

But go on, keep on attacking me about it, I don't care.

Sry i just was posing the question is this the best 1vs1 battle that will happen for 5 years or ( being sort of sarcastic- i am looking forward to the TDF ) will the BW vs CE ITT battle be better than Boonen/ Cancellaras'.
