Break Out Rider 2011 Tour

Kind of hard to say, given we don't now the line-ups yet.

But someone who has been confirmed who I think will impress is Thomas de Gendt. Don't know whether he'll manage to win a stage, but if he doesn't it won't be for lack of trying.

Sorry to bring sadness to this thread but the big big favourite for this was imo Tondo. A volta winner who had done well at the last 2 gts but because of illness not well enough to raise too many heads. With movi behind him i feel top 10 definately was on, maybe top 5.

Aside from that, Daniel Martin, though i dont know how much of a breakthrough it would be for someone who has already one the big one:p.

Busche seems to be on an upward curve that might continue to go for a few months yet. Kind of like Sagan. I thought the TDU performance was impressive. I thought PN was impressive. He kept going. Maybe Busche too.

And as Nick mentioned Uran of course though for those who watch outside July he should be a big name anyway.

Yes :(

Busche won't be a standout because of all those that have to endure P+P will be hearing everytime he's in camera shot how strong he was in the ATOC. :D

I'm expecting somebody French to have a big breakthrough. I don't know who but French riders and teams have often exceeded my expectations this year.

There are several good young sprinters who might be there in good form. If any of them even gets a single stage against Cav then it would be be a breakthrough.

We already know Dan Martin is a good stage racer but I'd consider it a breakthrough if he can finish a 3-week race strong. I'm not sure he'll even be on the roster though?

I guess a breakthrough can come in lots of forms and there should be chances for many riders to shine. My favourite moments in the Tour are when somebody gets their first big win. Whether it's a fresh name or somebody who's been a domestique for a decade, winning a first stage at the Tour is always a breakthrough.

I probably don't agree with myself in a couple of hours either, just throwing out a name.

If I had said Hesjedal for top 10 last year or Wiggins the year before, I would probably have been written off - so you never know.

In before bavarianrider picks tony martin ;)

Uran could very well do it if he isn't required to be wiggos chauffeur. Coppel could as well , I really hope he does which probably clouds my judgement.

I like the way he rides. Rigoberto Uran or maybe even Geraint Thomas. I think Gesink might even hit the podium if he's lucky...

Even given the talent, Hoogie is too dumb to ride a good placing :D

Chris Horner.

not sure he is ready yet. Another year or two and their wont be any stopping him.

I really don't want this guy to get near the podium in all honesty.

Coppel, Hermans and i agree Hitch Tondo would have been. Brajkovic if he goes well because he has only won one major race. Bole maybe. TGBM is not hyped up at all by CN, we discovered him 1st.

Mollema will be probably be a servant in July. Which is fine for this year, but eventually he may be sick of not leading the races he wants to.
I'd love to see him leave rabo and ride for vasc. or something :p
