Video footage here

A bus driver who knocked a cyclist off his bike in Bristol using his bus "as a weapon" has been jailed for 17 months.

The court was told the bus driver deliberately knocked the cyclist down after the pair had an altercation. The cyclist suffered a broken leg.

Another reminder of the complete f***ing idiots out there and why it's important not to put yourself in such a position :(

Horrifying, and good to see a severe penalty handed down rather than a derisory fine for some poxy charge like driving without due care and attention.

Completely agree.

I wouldn't call 17 months a severe penalty. The Bus driver deliberately ran the cyclist off the road. I would consider this attempted murder. 5-10 years would be a severe penalty.

Exactly. The bus driver deserves much more time than a mere 17 months in jail.

Yes, its bad but you don't need to go to those lengths to get a weapon.

Get this the latest excuse used to totally side step the law and run over a cyclist and mane them.

"I saw a fast approaching truck behind me and wanted to avoid him so I moved off the road.", this was on a two lane road (in one direction) . Driver runs over a cyclist (literally) and then rams car into a tree. No one F-ing charge and no word if even a ticket. You'd think at the very least reckless driving but no, nothing. Meanwhile, cyclist is fighting for their life in a hospital...

"road wars" just on the telly, a guy stole a tom tom sat nav and got 16 months........ 1 extra month for attempted murder with a freakin bus, you couldnt make this &*&* up.

In the UK 17 months for driver is a long scentence. You can get convicted of death by dangerous driving and be given a shorter tariff. By the standards of the UK justice system 17 months for a driving related crime is a severe scentence.

17 months for attempted murder and assault with deadly weapon in the UK. In China if you raise capital for private sector avoiding national banks you get a death sentence

lets not aspire to the standards of the chinese justice system.

I get that people think the scentence should have been more, but remember that bad driving in the UK usually gets a fine and an endorsement on the license. 17 months is a big scentence for a driving offense.

to be fair its not really bad driving more like assault with a deadky weapon :S 17 months is pretty good for the driver he's pretty much attacked the guy with a lump of metal weighing however many thousand kgs a bus weighs ...
