I'd say he would be about 12-15 minutes down on Nibali and TJVG's time would probably we worse as well.

Yeah its a shame. If Nibali, Valverde, Pinot, Peraud, Tejay, Konig, and Bardet had all crashed out, Cadel might have won...

Had Alberto/Cavendish/Froome and others not crashed out, or dropped out, Nibali would've probably finished about 12th back, and Cadel probably would still have had a chance to win.;) what is your point?

Cavendish? Obvious troll is obvious.

And Cadel would even have been roasted by the likes of Zubeldia and Ten Dam.

I don't know. There's only one obvious reason for Cavendish's diminished sprinting speed: He's becoming a climber!

Just wait. At next years tour he shall reveal his complete transformation :p

In all seriousness Cadel gets crushed by Nibali no matter how you look at it. Hey, he was beaten by him convincingly at last years Giro, and Evans is getting older and worse, and Nibs is at least on that level now. Cadel could have been top ten, but I doubt he would have been close to the podium.

You also have to name the riders between 8-15.

Evans time is over. The Giro showed that. He is no Voigt or Horner who can keep their fitness well into their 40's. Not everybody can do that. For some (or most, I should say) the end is somewhere between 34 and 38.

Jens said it perfectly during the Tour: You can reach that (top)-form, but it is much harder to get there. And even harder to keep it for three weeks. Evans is still a solid guy for weeklong races, but the GT's are over for him.

My point is that Cadel would have needed a lot of the top GC riders from the Tour out for him to place a top 3 finish.

Maybe. Cadel probably would have survived and gotten something like 10th. IMHO....:)

Cadel will always be a legend. Certainly his Grand Tour winning times are over, but he's still the rider for the one-day-races. He still has the kick and sprints well. Liège should still be an objective before he goes away from the scene and, to begin, he should skip the Vuelta and do the Canadian classics, which are always great races. The World's will also tell us something about his future.

As I wrote it before: Evans should forget about GTs at all & profit big time on small Italian races, an Ardennes classic and a multi day races. He should make a 2 year deal with BMC only for those races with a clause to get price money as a part of his salary so then he retire honorably with the cash & a great palmares..

Bit late for that now. He should have done it after his Tour win. He will be expected to support GVA and Gilbert. Hard to see Evans fitting in at BMC after this year unless he takes a pay cut and does the TOC, Utah and such races plus a few races that Gilbert is not riding. I think he will finish up after the TDU and the new one day race in his name in Australia. Would still like to see him do a decent ride in the Vuelta without threatening Froome or Quintana of course. Evans was all about the grand tours and as soon as Gilbert joined BMC the Ardenne classics were not going to be a big part of his season. Would also like to see him ride well in the Worlds but Gerrans will probably be team captain. But Gerrans has a had a chequered few months since the Liege win with illness and injury. Maybe there will be some flexibility for Evans to ride for himself.

Who says Cadel can't climb anymore! :D

He can't. He would have dropped those three non-entities by three minutes a few years back and he wouldn't have won that stage if it had finished uphill rather than downhill.

I am just glad Cadel got another victory today. He is riding well and I think he should be happy with how his career has gone. If he decides to ride another year, good luck to him, if not, well what a great cyclist he has been.

I think Cadel could do another year at the highest level if he decides to focus on the hilly classics, he's made for them but he rarely targets them. Maybe he should switch teams though to make that come to fruition.

He's finished as a real climber, yesterday was another example of that. Joey Rosskopf is a great talent, no doubt, but do we expect he could have followed any of the current top-5 on GC up a mountain? I guess not.
