I just bought a Campagnolo BR 12 TT brake caliper. It is a center pull type which is ideal for the under bottom bracket position used on some TT bikes.
On close inspection I was surprised to find that it is in fact a Tektro R725 brake. This is confirmed by the p/ no stamped on the back or the caliper and the made in Taiwan sticker on the Campagnolo box.
Who would have thought.

Actually a fair amount of Campagnolo/Fulcrum stuff made in asia. I predict there will be a Fulcrum group-for OE, made where all the frames are made, in 2013.

What could Campagnolo add to brake systems that Tektro couldn't? Not much. So, why not?

Why? It's high quality. As high quality as European manufacturing without all those expensive, complicated regulations.

like those ritte carbon frames? kinda the same thing actually...just from a bigger company having it made in asia and then selling it on right ...my only point really is I think that would surprise most campy buyers...maybe not tho...

Yeah, maybe it would surprise Campy people. I'm so used to Taiwan/China manufacturing that I don't give it a second thought.

Like worker protection, environmental regulations...you know those complicated things.

What the f*ck?

How about some newspaper in your fork tube? That's "high quality", right?
Let me know when China starts making quality on the level of Time. Until then, I'd suggest you stay away from their drywall.

If it's made in Taiwan, workers are treated okay working conditions are certainly better than China proper. Just enough Western influence there. For bikes in general, the product is tested to CEN standards. Campag Q/A will certainly test before doing the deal with Tektro.

What's wrong with newspaper in the fork blade? Would you be less offended if they used blank newsprint-style paper? Newsprint does the job well. There's something like it in a Time fork too. Mold can't stick to the fork blade after all.

As for the shocking failed carbon, that's how it breaks. Which is why I don't use it. We don't know Time's failure rates because there are certainly fewer produced. You don't know that frame builder's failure rates either. One photo is indicative of almost nothing.

Actually there isn't. TIME use a wax form and mold, then they melt the wax out

Anyway my understanding was that Campy had quite a few parts and castings done outsourced but all assembly and finishing was done in house. Actually I thought I read an article about that recently, still you learn something new every day

Quality without regulations, folks. At rock bottom prices!

There's a bit of a difference between a reputable brand that has been around for quite a while providing OEM parts and some dodgy Chinese manufacturers banging out counterfeit Pinarellos.

Let's keep things in perspective here.
