Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two. Which is the best wheelset?

I recently purchased a Battaglin C13 with a Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two wheelset. I didn't have too much time to ride the bike but from what I did so far I really like the bike/wheel combination.

I was reading through this forum a bit to get a better idea about what most riders think is the best wheelset. Does anyone has an opinion on a specific wheelset? Any favorites?

It also depends on the bike/wheel combination but if you have to name your ultimate favorite what would it be?

So, you have a new bike with brand new wheels which would cost at least $2500 to buy as an upgrade. Now you want people's opinions on the 'best' wheelset? Best for what? Cobbles? Climbing? Stage racing? Crits? Grave? Shouldn't you have asked this question before you bought your bike?

You don't seem to ride much, just accumulate pretty things like a magpie and then ask people's opinions afterwards. To answer your question, my best wheelset is a pair of hope pro 3's laced to velocity a23 rims (f 28h 2 cross/r 32h 3 cross drive side, 2 cross non-drive side) with sapim cx ray spokes. Cost approx $720. They don't stand out from the crowd, I don't crow about how much (or how little) they cost - I doubt that their appeal is obvious to you

As per post #2

Best wheels?

Depends on your weight, how smooth you are, terrain, speed, tubulars/clinchers, what durability you seek...even then there are a stack to choose from.

I can relate to seeking confirmation after purchase (if that is part of your thoughts behind posting) as I have on occasion jumped before looking.

So you have a great set of wheels.

Training wheels: Open Pros Dura Ace Hubs 28 (or 32 depending on weight).

Race: I have an outdated pair of Mavic GLs Aerolite radial front, 3x rear that are still sweet.

ps while not a Clydesdale, neither am I light.
However I wouldn't mind some Easton EC90s (would be ok :D).

For training, something with lots of spokes and a decent rim, screwed together by a wheel builder who stands behind their product.

For racing, the deep-dish carbon tubular somebody else pays for and maintains for you. Unless it's blowing a gale and raining, at which point give me some alloy rims and put Kool-Stop Salmon brake pads in.

For cruising to the local coffee shop, wooden rims on a custom-built metal bike

Great, thank you. I knew that the Bora's are on the higher end but wanted to make sure about there everyday use.

I guess I could ask, if you can only own one set of wheels what would it be?

Something custom that's built for my requirements, can't get that off the shelf, and definitely not carbon for everyday wheels. Waste of money IMHO.

Race wheels, those Boras. Everyday use? A good set of handbuilt tubulars using a Campagnolo or shimano hubset laced to Ambrosio or NOS Campagnolo tubular rims, DT double butted spokes, built well. They would be light, crisp, reliable, use standard parts and........cost a hellavalot less than any overpriced, fragile carbon wheelset.
