Would be a surprise to me since it's his first GT and he suffered a lot, my prediction is Top-10

It's his second GT.

I figure he'll be spent after surviving the mountains, but I thought the same about Guardini and see what happened.

Anyway, what a weird thread. Maybe I should start another one asking about Larsson's chances tomorrow.

Oh yeah well first one he rides to the end. Anyways you are pretty c0cky for someone with serious egg on their face due to their Hesjedal comments two years ago. Go back into your corner and repent until the Tour, then you are allowed to come back :D :p ;)

Who is the favorite for the stage win anyway, which ITT'ers are still in this Giro?
I would say Larsson or Pinotti takes the stage tomorrow.

Why is Thomas de Gendt not favourite for tomorrows TT?

He finished 3rd to Tom Martin in 2011 TdF TT Stage 20 day after Alpe D'huez

1. MARTIN Tony 175 HTC - HIGHROAD 55' 33"
2. EVANS Cadel 141 BMC RACING TEAM 55' 40" + 00' 07"
4. DE GENDT T 203 VACANSOLEIL-DCM 57' 02" + 01' 29"

Hesjedal same TT:

62. HESJEDAL Ryder 55 GARMIN - CERVELO 1h 00' 29" + 04' 56"

Well, he himself isn't super confident.
In a new exclusive video interview with Cyclingnews, he mentioned his fear that he might not perform as well as he’d normally do against the clock on Sunday after the huge effort he produced in the mountains.

But as you said, his great TT was right after a great Alpe D'Huez. I think he'll do well, and I think Hesjedal will do enough to win as well. (As I recall, a top performance was not required out of Hesjedal in that TT, as Garmin's Team GC was all wrapped up by the TT.)

However I think there are a few specialists who will have saved energy and probably nab the stage.

Wasn't the 2011 TDF ITT with a fair bit of climbing/descending.

Perhaps he is better at that than in flat TT's.

Then again, I once heard (I think it was Leukemans say): "Thomas is one of the most powerful guys in the peleton, he pushes around a -very high gear- like I push a -much easier gear-."

Alpe stage was only 110km. Today's was 210 and at altitude. Guessing recovery will be an issue.

Philippe Gaumont was dead last on GC, when he finished third on the final time trial in the 1997 Tour. Not exactly the same thing, but close enough :p

Hate to disappont you, but tomorrow third last placed Phinney is gonna get beat by sixth last placed Alex Rasmussen. Rasmussen actually had the final TT in the bag last year, but suffered a badly timed puncture and lost by a few seconds to David Millar. The TT's a bit longer this time, but still doable. Today, Rasmussen even beat the gruppetto by seven minutes - he must be in top shape!

You heard what happened to Guardini today, right? He'll be traveling home tomorrow.

He thought Guardini would have been too cooked to produce anything, and then Guardini won a stage and proved him wrong. So he is saying that just because he thinks Phinney will be too cooked doesn't mena he won't find himself proved wrong again.

Interesting fact about Gaumont...that is exactly the kind of statistic
I was looking for. I won't be disappointed with whatever Phinney
does or doesn't do, I only tune in to the GT's for the sprint stages.
I am disappointed that the Manx Missile lost the Red Jersey though.
