Gosh...I guess it is how you interpret it, it may be a little arrogant, but nothing more...

The only loser here is.... YOU! Calling an accomplished rider a loser? Get a life amigo

Of course Cancellara is a very accomplished rider but he at least should have the decency to aknowledge the massive victory of Nuyens..
Great champions are magnanimous in defeat as well ;)

Yeah I suppose your probably right :)
I just think Cancellara took all the praise and plaudits deservedly for winning E3 the weekend before and at least he should accept that Nuyens rode a better race than him..
But maybe I'm just reading into it too much..

I don't think you are reading too much into it. There is an 8 and a half minute interview on http://velonews.competitor.com/, which is worth watching if you haven't already, he talks about the race, it is pretty good, I love the part when the interviewer tells him BMC had 7 guys on the front, his comments made me smile. :)

Great stuff.

To be fair to Canc, he did do by far the most work so i can understand him being upset.

Reminds me of Grappa when people on here ganged up on Ozzies for complaining that Cadel had to do a lot of work while Basso slipstreamed because Nibali was up the road.

I think in such situations riders have a right to feel a bit upset even if that is how bike racing is.

He is an athlete, he can say what he likes. Like Ali, Merckx, Lance etc.
Guy is awesome, he can say what he likes.

I just think he is a Tool ,

" There was 50 of them behind a gladiator "

“I am the only man in the world who can make an attack like the one in Flanders, or in Roubaix in 2010. Everybody knows that if I’m at 100 percent they have to fasten their seatbelts, like on an aeroplane

I dont care if its true or not but christ i think ego wise the arrogant **** is starting to think he is the new Lance.

I agree with your comments, I think he has a right to feel a little miffed, but in the video he seems a bit more philosophical about it all. The written interview seems to make it a bit harder to get the sentiment behind what was said.

If you think Nuyens rode a better race than Cancellara, you know nothing about cycling. Cancellara made the race.

some of his comments made me cringe, But I read it, it could be interpreted a little harsh maybe.

I still dislike the guy for neutralizing the tour stage last year.

I do appreciate him calling Chav a gladiator tho

Cancellara is a toolbox.
that guy needs to get his **** kicked a few times and come back to earth.
he is arrogant...and hardly give time to his fan..i am not one of them but witness first hand at the tour last year.

he is a good TT..and that is all i will about him.
He worked hard during the race..but he should use his head..

solong.

I don't care what he says provided he keeps performing like that. His opponents are the best riders in the world and yet he makes them look like amateurs. Name one rider who can do what Fabian does. Nuyens was very lucky to even hang onto his wheel during that last attack and he only won the sprint by (accidentally) cutting off Chavanel.

Nuyens should know he was very lucky to win Flanders. A conspiring of circumstances where the heavyweights knocked themselves out leaving him to sneak through with a victory. He may have won on paper but for me the winners that day were Cancellara, Chavanel, Gilbert and BMC.

If Cancellara wants to compare himself to a gladiator or a jet engine, I'm okay with that. His talent is in a class of its own and it's mostly just colorful to have a rider saying and backing up those things.

I do think it was beneath him to belittle Nuyens, though, by saying that such a win would mean 'nothing' to a rider like Cancellara. There's no need to poop on a guy for having just won his first Classic (which is what Cancellara did, even if he said 'congratulations to Nuyens'). It's not like anybody's proclaiming Nuyens to be the next Spartacus, so Cancellara could have just left that one alone.

Furthermore, even the great man himself has admitted to trying to wheelsuck to a win when necessary. Just like Nuyens lacked support at Flanders, Cancellara lacked support in the Beijing road race. Cancellara openly admitted that this fact 'forced' him to try to follow wheels for as long as possible until the last lap. I don't hear anybody proclaiming that Cancellara's road race medal means 'nothing'.

what's luck got to do with that? Canc opened a gap, Nuyens absolutely buried himself to get back on, something that the group of elite riders behind him could not do. Strength, lungs, willpower. Luck?

Wow, that's at least 10 winners. So even if Nuyens wasn't so lucky and got spit out the back, the race would have had 9 winners? You sure have a funny definition of winning. I remember back in 3rd grade they gave everyone a medal just for being in the race, to make sure nobody's feelings were hurt. Is that what you mean?

How many winners are there going to be in Paris Roubaix?

I have lost a lot of respect for Cancellara after this strange interview...

It was strange. Very. Which is why I'm reserving judgement until I hear the words come out of his mouth myself.

The media loves nothing more than to grasp at some incendiary remarks, from anyone, and splash them about in bold print. A lot can be lost "in translation" either quite literally or when taken out of context.

If you watch the VN video, Fabian seems actually embarrassed when he uses the Superman reference saying, (just after the 6:00 mark) "As a favorite...as 'Superman' that had a weak point..." He actually comes off as humble, when you see the remark in context.

Until I see differently, I just don't believe that Fabian all of a sudden went "Cavendish" on us.

I'm not directing this at the OP in particular but...

Spartacus is simply an awesome rider who deserves respect, not condemnation based on one printed interview.

+1

Nuyens = David
Cancellara = Goliath

Cancellara is The best TT'er in the world. Absolutely. He is specialized for flatlands. But he ain't no God, you just need one Scarponi in a Tirreno to show it when road steepens up :D He is specialized for flatlands.

Hey if you want to worship someone who "absolutely buried himself to get back on", go right ahead, it's a free country.

Personally my admiration goes to the guys up front doing the work and the guys attacking and animating the race. And when they don't get rewarded for their efforts I'm disappointed. And there is no law against that is there?

Nuyens did a Bradbury. Good luck to him, he has the win but respect is another thing.

Don't know what a Bradbury is? Here you go.
