Captions splashed across photos

Can we please get the big, ugly white captions off the photos that accompany articles? They block the content, ruin the shot, are redundant, are sometimes hard to read, and just look bad. The caption is already under the photo - that's enough.

For example, the Tygart shaking hands photo in this gallery looks dreadful.

Is this just a Firefox thing, or is everybody seeing these bad captions covering the photo content?

If the purpose is to keep people form using CN photos, then why not put a watermark or logo unobtrusively in the corner - something that doesn't distract from the photos themselves?

the captions should disappear when you mouse out.

The bigger question, is why the entire page has to refresh to load the next photo. Would it be that difficult to load the entire gallery in one go and be able to cycle through the pictures without having a full page reload every single time?

The captions don't go away for me - maybe it's related to running NoScript. Will have to look around & see if I can change something. I only installed NoScript specifially for CN since I kept getting so many AV warnings that seemed to be related to the constantly moving & flashing ads.

Photo Captions

Sorry my first ever post has to be a complaint, and I'm not really sure where I should even be saying this, but I want to moan about the photos and their captions. How come they are never in the order their narrative suggest they should be? It makes the stories difficult and frustrating to understand - check the Fizik story today for a typical example of this irritating phenomenon. I thought it was something that would be sorted out, but years go by and nothing changes.

I'm going to have a whine about the photos, too. The randomly appearing captions at the top, the incessant pop-up ads on virtually every photo (I'd be fine with one every 10 photos, or so, but every frickin' photo?!), and the general low-res quality. Fewer, better photos would suit me. The whole page refresh is also crappy. I like the way photos work on Boston Globe's "The Big Picture". That's a decent model.

I started a thread about the inability of the photos to fully display while viewing but it was completely ignored by admins or whomever so I will stick my complaint in here as well...

viewing photos on this site..which should work properly and not be such a big deal...does not seem an option here.

Me too, I found that all I had to do was to login via the main page (http://www.cyclingnews.com/) instead of the forum's equivalent (http://forum.cyclingnews.com/).

it 's not about only the captions but how many are tired of the gallery being unviewable????

Trying to look at the pics of races and they only half show or revert to original view. WHAT IS THIS AND WHY CAN'T WE SIMPLY VIEW THE GALLERY WITHOUT ALL THIS BS??

The mistake you people are making is in believing for even a second that the owners or moderators or support people give a good god damn about any of you, or us.

We are just the excuse to sell ads, not a reason to actually try and make the site useable.
