I thought given there wasn't a thread about this people had stopped caring.

He tried to bunny hop a speed bump. Landed awkwardly and fell. He wasn't the only one to crash. The notoriously dangerous Flecha crashed after the finish line.

Flecha broke his carbon wheel on those barriers. He at least managed to stay up while riding over those barriers and still finishing.

You can't be serious about that one. Have you actually watched what happened to him? Flecha is a great bike handler.

I'm pretty sure he was kidding about "the notoriously dangerous" part.

On the general point of the thread, I've just realised that while I didn't warm to him initially, people whining and yapping about Cavendish and unjustly denigrating him has actually pushed him firmly onto the list of riders I like.

Yep, his spitting on or at Haussler after their crash really endeared him to me too.

Can you find a single quote from an eye-witness for that?

I tried but all I could find was, "Somebody said that someone saw Cavendish spit blah blah blah..."

Considering that Van Poppel is accused of appealling against Cavendish in every race, irrespective of events, it wouldn't surprise me if he made the spitting incident up too. But I'd be happy to change my opinion if there's a credible witness.

Totally serious. I mean Flecha crashes what 2 times a season. Show me another professional cyclist who crashes that much...

Same here. The more mud people throw at him the more I start to like him.

Can you find a single quote that supports your claim of Van Poppel appealing against Cavendish in "every race"?

Based on his history of behaviour or misbehaviour I'm more inclined to believe it happened. Haussler was asked about the spitting incident and chose to say "No comment" which leads me to believe that it happened and he simply prefers to not discuss it any further. When a rider chooses to go from the far right of the road to past the center in one fell swoop all while in front of other riders and the move results in multiple season altering injuries to his opponents and said rider takes the position of victim, I'm inclined to believe he's capable of blaming one of the victims of his recklessness. It wouldn't surprise me if he did spit at or on Haussler.

Of course it could also be a case of a rumour being reported as fact but how often do we have reports in the media and even in cyclingnews:eek: that don't reveal the source of said info?

Nice try. No quote I take it?

Any history of spitting? abusing other riders in any way? contemptuous behaviour towards crash victims?

What you've said is that you don't like him because he spat at Haussler but you don't know he did, you just like to think he did because you don't like him.

Most of them crash that many times just in the Tour. I remember Rolf Aldag saying that most of them expect to crash 3 times on average in the 3 weeks.

eurosport coverage didn't show the crash alone the bike change. both cave and bek(?) had obvious handling difficulties so maybe the answer lies with the mechanics as rob hayles suggested.

I scoured the web for any evidence for the spitting allegation and found nothing apart from the usual b/s. no film, no direct quotes from anyone so I've dismissed it.

Lets leave this thread to discuss today's crash. There are plenty of Cav threads to discuss everything else about him.

If this thread doesnt stay on topic I will lock it.

From this article: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cavendish-warns-his-world-championship-rivals

He also claims that a rival team is systematically playing mind games with him by often lodging protests after sprints.

"They openly complain about every single thing and they openly admit it," Cavendish said. "I've spoken to guys in that team and say 'why do you do it?' and they said 'we've got to find a way to beat you'. That's not fair, and that's not sporting."

Cavendish’s claimed that one specific team manager "tries to f**k with me at every possible opportunity, which is ironic considering he was a sprinter and I actually looked up to him. But now I have no respect for him."

It's generally accepted that he was talking about van Poppel and Cervelo.

I guess I took the sarcasm too far.

Cavendish up to No. 2 this season already, or is it 3?

Must have easily had 2 or 3 just in the second half of the season last year.

Don't think Cav crashes more often than other riders

Sprinters are pumped up so I would cut him a bit of slack even if he did spit at him. I can imagine Haussler doing the same.
