Fantastic. First real match-up for the 3 this year in the Tour of Oman.
As Goss & Greipel have not raced much in the last 2 to 3 weeks, they must be pretty fresh. So, it should be a good one.
My pennies are on Cav though as he has been racing well recently.
Your predictions?

Cavendish is miles ahead.
I look forward to Goss vs Greipel. Though i'd like to see Goss vs Greipel vs Petacchi with Ale-Jet obviously beating them

I'm looking forward to this.

Cavendish vs Greipel of course is the "big one".

Then we have got Farrar and Goss as well, both riders who would love to be considering among the best of the best.

And let's not forget Kittel. Probably the sprinter most people expect can challenge Cavendish in the future - or perhaps even this season!

One step further down we've got Oss who showed great form in Qatar and probably surprised a few people by doing so well in the sprints.

We've got Galimzyanov who on various occasions have shown great speed - the young German Selig is there as well and he placed better than Galimzyanov in Qatar.

Of course Boonen and his leadout man Steegmans will look to build on his great early form (OK apparently OPQS will ride for Steegmans in the sprints here).

Bouhanni, the young Frenchman who beat Kittel in Etoile de Bessège is there as well.

But wait a minute. One name has yet to be mentioned. The winner of todays stage. Andrea Guardini!

I would go with Goss beating Greipel/ Cav. However i expect someone other than those 3 to win.

That lucky person ( who is now doomed to crash ) is Adam Blythe. I want to see if my miracle predictions continue ( last year i said Zaugg could win GDL )

In Qatar Blythe approved himself a decent classic prospect, however he was not that fast in bunch sprints.

repeat of 11 Worlds RR Championship

I'm going with Cav, Goss, Greipel a repeat of the World RR Championships, Cav said himself he has been working on increasing his endurance in the sprints without losing to much speed, i think he will be even harder to beat this year.

Cav vs Greipel vs...Goss? The same Goss who failed to get into the top 10 in a single stage of TDU?

No, Kittel is the man. He's the only sprinter with potential to beat Cavendish on a regular basis.

Cavendish will be the best. He will proof that this TdF once again. I'm sure about that.

Greipel can match his topspeed, but lacks the positioning, but maybe the new Lotto train can help him with that.
Kittel showed great class last year and he might be able to challenge Cavendish and I think this race might actually show us if he really is that close to Cav.

I don't think Goss has the same topspeed as the 3 mentioned above, but when the race gets hard or finishes slighty uphill he is equal or better. Depends on how hard the race is or how steep the finish is etc.

Should be a nice sprint showdown in Oman though.

this is a pathetic argument  i don't say Cav can't sprint based on TDU, Tirreno and Suisse in 2011...

True, but since the topic thread was about Oman then it's actually quite reasonable to use his recent form as an indication. It's unlikely that he already has found good shape given how bad shape he had at the TDU.

well, if he wants to be competitive in SanRemo he should have some shape now, at least i expect him to take part in Oman's bunch sprints

Well, maybe we'll get Cav Vs Goss Vs Greipel some day this week! Possibly tomorrow if the website would only show us the right profile for stage 2!

Or maybe the 3 of them have decided to divide the spoils this week in a Vino style-ee:D:D

Hard to gauge Cav at this point of season. He normally does not take these races too seriously. What are his goals this season? With Sky I believe they are different than with HTC. Maybe Classics attempts? Be interesting.
He is most certainly the best when he wants to be.

The normal. San Remo, Giro, Tour with the Olympics and Gent Wevelgem added this season as well.

altough you wouldnt know it. he is limited in what he can realistically go for so his target races will be very similar every year.

Cavendish was in the first big group in G-W, but got caught out because of a crash in the last 20k.

I see euanli was more then an hour faster....

Cav's been targetting G-W for ages.

I think it was getting boxed out there in '08 which sparked the change of approach from coming off the wheels from behind to getting a train organised. Then the next two years his team-mates won from breakaways.

Wait until Milan San Remo or the tour and then ask this question again, wait for them all to get in good form.
