Changed mentality of BMC?

I remember back in the day, posters here were always criticising BMC on how they just spent big money on cycling stars instead of developing talent like a Man City for example.
However after having relatively successful past seasons, I have seen a great change in the way BMC are acquiring their riders in the past two seasons.
Instead of getting the jaded stars like hushovd for example, they have gone for many young talent, such as Vliegen, Teuns, Rosskopf, Senni, Flakemore, Dennis, Dillier.
In particular Dillier, Teuns and Dennis are the ones to watch out for.
Dillier had a great staigiaire and debut season.
He is a real strong man and a future classics cyclist to watch out for
Kung also had a U23 season last year and just won the individual pursuit championship.
Dennis, well he is always improving and is the future of BMC.
They must be one of the youngest teams out there.

strangely Dennis just signed from August 2014 until 2015, his contract is already up at the end of the season
anyway, BMC won't let him go anywhere

Even if he doesn't get a result for the rest of the season, which is unlikely, he set himself up for a big payday by just signing until the end of 2015. BMC will surely pay up to see what his ceiling is.

Developing is a hard word to use in cycling. Who a rider trains under won't necessarily be who they race under, and neither of those are long term. And in many ways, it is older teammates who do the more meaningful, albiet unstructured, developing, anyways. Only Sky has a reputation for developing their riders, and that was part of the mission from its genesis.

To single out BMC is not fair to that team.

well, peiper was instrumental in finding and developing talent at HTC highroad so its great to see him running things at bmc.

cav, EBH, degenkolb, tony martin, tejay, greipel, goss, wiggo...all came to highroad as nothings and came out as stars...and all procured for next to no cost.

also note that bmc got de marchi and caruso from liquigas...

I find that a bit hard to understand, as Froome, Porte and Wiggins all rode on other teams. Kennaugh is one a few exclusively Sky riders

What about teams like Garmin as well, with Talansky and Martin having evolved into some of the peleton's best riders under JV. Also OGE, with riders like the Yates, Chaves, Howson that are yet to reach stardom (hopefully :D ).

I wish I could find the article, but Brailsford is on the record as saying that, in response to criticism that they don't develop their younger riders, he is of the belief that it is a waste since you'd only be doing the work for other teams that the developed rider eventually jumps to. This in response to why so many young riders like EBH, Dombrowski, and others haven't progressed, reached their potential under his leadership/guidance.

Who are/were the other "Jaded" stars other than Hushovd?

They spent money on Cadel and he won the Tour, Hincapie came over to be team captain and that certainly helped.

Phil is still competing strong, don't think he is "jaded"

Not a Big BMC fan.

But Cuddles was a great signing.Tour, WC,Giro 10' Strade Bianchi Stage. Just a few of the top of my head.

I don't think Gilbert has given them what they though they were getting. Yes he won WC but basically not much else.

Thor was a bust at BMC. JMHO

Hincapie served a purpose as a link for a developing team. I think he served well in that roll in BMC & Highroad.

I used to bash TJV. But I think his Tour 14'. Matured him a lot. His attacks on Green Mountain, show a big step forward. And BMC has/is developing him well.

Dennis was smart to get out of Garmin. He has potential. Maybe not GT winner. But shorter stage races/ TT's maybe some Classics.
