Changes in media coverage on LA/doping/UCI?

Are we finally seeing the tide changing here? Ex riders speaking out, ex officials coming out, and some of the traditional cycling press that to date were reluctant to speak about doping now also doing so. A change from the eerie silence to date? Even Eurosport's coverage of the recent World's included a decent discussion on doping (although little contribution from Sean ).

Here's Rupert McGuinness' latest on Anne Gripper:

http://m.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/exdoping-head-backs-armstrong-inquiry-20121005-274ox.html

and Rupert's UCI article incl. mea culpa last week:

http://m.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/cycling-must-come-clean-from-top-down-20120926-26kzv.html

Should we be critical about their past silence or supportive of their recent new found interest?

change?

yesterday reading statement that armstrong had moved on beyond his recent troubles and could not understand why others had not done so also

i was struck by the lack of response by the reporter.............just as it's always been

lance quoted his mother who encouraged him always to look forward

but there was no question 'so your mother never taught you not to cheat lie
or bully people? and you prefer no move on rather than apologise or make amends?'

Can't we be both at the same time?

Thanks, for the articles!

rupert is not a real journalist, he just writes fluffy 'opinion' pieces about what people want to hear (though he never seems to have his own real opinion on anything)

but yes it appears that the tide is turning when a clown like rupert turns on wonderboy

This is why cyclists make **** doctors. At the first sign of change in the patient's condition they declare the problem solved.

Rather than asking whether the media has really changed, ask when fans will change.

Hey.....watcha saying about cyclists making bad Dr.s??

In all seriousness, it is an evolving process for all concerned. The fans/public relied on information, we relied on responsible reporting. The difficulty there is that it is usually the stakeholders (riders/UCI) who control the narrative.
It usually takes someone or something outside that bubble to expose what is really happening.

D1ck Pound brought up the role of the social media. That allows the fans voice to be heard. Add to that some excellent sites like NYVC and Innerring and you get quality information on a broader number of topics.

It has been a long hard road but I think we are finally getting somewhere. The comments section now has 'Lance is a cheater' remarks greatly outnumbering apologist remarks. A lot of articles I read have a tone that assumes that everybody understands LA was a doper.

In a podcast I listened to several weeks ago the commentators spoke in defense of LA and very much against USADA only to have an interview in the next show with Alexi Grewal where he nonchalantly stated "I probably would have doped like lance did too!"

You nailed it Dr Mas. Thankfully we are now getting some truth. I am glad I won't have to have lance is a doper arguments anymore. The only thing is now the arguments will be whether it was morally acceptable or not.

You can only have that discussion if there is an admission.

Currently we're still in denial phase and he appears to be leaving it up to the fans to decide.

Which is spineless.
