Cheaters Caught Red Handed!

Edit: I'm creating this thread for a place to post instances, links and story's of cheaters in any sport that got caught red handed.

Feel free to discuss how ridiculous or sad they're individual cases happen to be.

Wouldn't be the first marathon con by a non-professional athlete. Did you guys follow the story about the Boston Marathon Dad? Hilarious, and highly recommended.

The letsrun bros went all in and offered a 100k gamble if he can run that quick again under verifiable conditions. He declined thus far. :p
There was also a woman who was trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon by running crazy fast times in lower tier marathons but she only ran the last quarter mile or something like that. She ran long enough to work up a sweat and finish just below the top pro runners. I think it was the St. Louis marathon IIRC..

Was that recent, Irondan? I can't remember the last race I ran where there wasn't a chip on the bib itself or a chip tag to put on the shoe. And there are mats all over the course (halfway at the very least). It is actually nice because you can get accurate splits and finish times. I have known people who have done some highly unethical things to get into Boston, so your overall story rings true.

I remember a story like this - thought in that one it was actually a triathlon - see http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/10/sports/julie-miller-ironman-triathlon-cheat.html?_r=0
I did also find this amusing one about the Boston marathon http://www.runnersworld.com/boston-marathon/dozens-suspected-of-cheating-to-enter-boston-marathon

I think it was 2 or 3 years ago. The races that she did it in had chips but she claimed that it got lost while she was running. They accepted that excuse the first race but they grew weary in the next one.

I'll try to find the story and post the link if I find it.

Really? People cheat all the *** time to get ahead, in every walk of life.

The only way to deter them is to ensure they don't believe they have one of these:

Not to that extent, they don't.

Haha! This one reminds me of Rosie Ruiz, winner of the 1980 Boston Marathon (for a moment).

I was a kid in Boston and watched the Marathon with my friends at the finish line.

Unforgettable..

Rosie Ruiz was the best. What a subversive legend.

That is an amazing story. George Costanza-level deception. Below is my favorite part.

Kip Litton on internet forums: "Engaging in negative rhetorical sparring with anonymous strangers may be entertaining for some, but it is not where I choose to spend my time."

This is like a good Agatha Christie mystery. There are so many WTF details that only Hercule Poirot could figure out. Why the changes in shoes and shorts? Why start minutes after the gun? Baffling. I did run one of his races (Dallas White Rock), but a year different (2008 vs 2009). I would guess that he scouts out courses where he knows that he can cut based on the route.

Rosie Ruiz is probably the most famous (infamous). But I think this guy tops the lot:

Good? This story is absolutely ssssssssick, man. I mean, I am agreeing with you. I could not believe the amount of detail in the story. So much so I started to wonder if this was a hoax, which reminded me of one of the all-time ultimate hoaxes if you can call it that, the 1938 radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel "The War of the Worlds". That was way before my time, but I've heard listeners of that radio broadcast actually freaked out thinking the world was being invaded by ETs. But the culprit Kip Litton actually exists. Wow!

I have to admit those stories about Litton, and Julie Miller, are indeed captivating. Great mysteries. I think what makes them extra impact is that the people around each of them describe them as being nice, friendly. Even the guy that finally caught up to Litton, when he met him, seemed to imply the guy was rather sanguine, and polite even. Both Litton and Miller's stories would make a good movie, not that either should profit in such a way.
