Call Of Duty is the greatest wargame series ever and its next release (Modern Warefare 3) will be out soon.

Here's the trailer, which is cool on its own. Features minor commical part by the NBA's Dwight Howard as a Noob... well, the NBA players got to work now too any way they can (making commercials, etc), or they just have so much spare time on their hands at the moment. Oh, and the theme music is none other than AC/DC... you guessed it... "Shoot To Thrill".

Anyone else can't wait?

EDIT: Poll added. I chose just 5 categories to vote on (realistic, skill required, multiplayer, graphics, overall preference), since the maximum number of options to create a poll is 10. I thought about categories like weaponry, vehicles, and maps, but I think BF has these hands down (if you want to show preference of one game or the other based on these you could use the OVERALL PREFERENCE category). You may vote for multiple items. Fire at will!

That trailer is silly. But it looks fantastic, and I like the concept behind it.

I played the first WWII version, and COD4, but that's it. I can't play online because I'm not very good, and kids that spend 100 hours a week every week playing, are. Oh, also played a little Black Ops 2. That was cool, but didn't get past like the 2nd level.

Afraid to buy any of these games as I know they can be time vacuums!

The thing that I hate is that its only worth playing it online for the first few weeks after the release. After that you end up in game after game where most of the opponnents are clearly using hacked accounts - sniping on the run, shooting around corners, simply not getting hurt when shot, etc. Up till then its awesome!

Sorry, not trying to make this thread a 'game vs game' but I have to counter that 'best wargame series' phrase of yours.

Battlefield is by far a better game. Better gameplay, teamwork and less kids cheating and moaning,

I respecte what BF3 brings, but it isn't without its problems. Like, recent (Oct 2011) rashes of network/server outages:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/324422/battlefield-3-online-problems-almost-fixed-claims-ea/ which should not be so much game related as it is networking related. Still, networking is part of the entire package.

But EA Sports typically does a nice job too.

I have not played much of the EA versions actually, and it could have better multiplayer with less hacking going on. But I've only noticed the hacks in older outdated versions of COD, not the newer versions.

They're different games, COD is an infantry FPS and more arcade while BF has vehicles and tries to be more realistic, they fall into different market niches. Don't be fanboys.

Pretty much this. Though FPS aren't my cup of tea.

Ps: best wargame franchise is the Total War series duh

I prefer the WW2 games. As in COD world at war.

Not only is there more history to it, such as the Königgrätzer marsch playing when the Germans win, the guns are more realistic. You choose between difficult to use machine guns, shotguns, snipers etc.

When I played the Modern warfare ones, every gun was a fully automatic superacurate sniper which also fired rockets.

You would think so but not neccesarily. I didnt play COD online for this reason for a year. I had heard there were kids in US Japan and the UK who just play the games 24/7 for years and thought it would be crap to try.

But when I did try, after a few games it turned out not to be so difficult.

You play it on PC right? Yeah on Pc idiots just use hacks and its boring. But if you play it through consoles the consoles dont allow for hacks, so, Alls fair in love and modern warfare, I guess.

I played all the CoDs untill Call of Duty: World at War and I played Black Ops. Call of Duty is becoming the Madden of FPS's, every year there needs to be a release that hardly adds anything and has became a cash cow series.

And for the cheating thing, you guys exaggerate it by quite amount. After a few weeks there is 'meta' developing with which weapons are stronger and how people play alot, I know this because I've been nr. 1 on the Call of Duty 2 Capture the Flag ladder for a few months and if you didnt play alot and didnt cope with strategies being developed you had no chance and yes that included shooting with snipers without aiming or jumping around corners with shotguns etc. :p Although yes, the longer a game is running the more people will start to develop cheats or buy them and its completely lame.

I'm currently downloading Battlefield 3 as I've just bought it, I hope it will amuse me. :)

I probably didn't mention enough that I pretty much suck at these games. Playing them on the easy level I rarely get through them, and get killed a lot.

Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 have all been hacked already. I let someone hack my console, so if I want I could use "cheats" on online games. Though I use my hacked console for other reasons

I also preferred the CAD WAW version better. But I got away from it because of all the hacks, even though I only play on an XBox 360 console. I figured it was ActiVsion's (the game developer company) way of forcing old customers to buy the newer versions.

Interesting you have not had hacks on the console version... maybe you are on the correct side of the planet such that the c.s. p.o.s. hacks are sleeping when you are online.

Edit: I'm thinking of adding a poll to this thread, but later... no time now

I am not judging anyone about playing a game especially a WAR game but I also want to give my opinion.

These war games make my stomach turn. It just seems strange that people will want to simulate war or play war. I got over that after a few years. This is just my opinion and I hope I have not hurt anyone’s feelings.

I know it is just a game.

I was bored after Cod2.
Always had a look at the new editions, but...always the same. Shooting stupid (too stupid) Wehrmacht and nasty Nazis. Game done in one day without sweating or any exciting moments.
Same goes for the MoH series.
Playing online of course gives some variety, but in general, there are too many idiots out there.
But I noticed that somehow, many kids were playing COD now instead of CS.
Back in the days it was quiet fascinating to play CS online, when playing online slowly stopped beeing a waste of time (which is an accurate description :D ) and when it started to work fast and stable.
Until Win2000 or finally WinXP came out, it was even a torture to play on LAN with friends.
(Ahh, good times, parents on holiday (we call it "stormfree"), houses full of PCs, cables, beer-cans and weed everywhere, dried pizzas, chips, frustrated people running around, installing and trying something to join the game or just the workgroup. Not to forget the frustraded and bored girls who always tried to boykott things....

Later I was totally into BF1942. Man, THAT was fun. Mainly online of course.
Made for online gaming. Can't count the many great moments that happened there, mainly because vehicles were involved.
Will never forget when I was pilot in one of those helicopters. Always was a good pilot, especially on helicopters.
So, I think there were about 5-6 "passengers" with me, I lifted off, wanted tp fly to some save point close to enemie base. Then helicopter was shot and damaged, tumbled, lost control and it turned 180degrees, ground came closer and closer, but then, around 5metres! above the ground, I got control and managed to turn helicopter upside and got an flying.
THAT was a real feeling of responsibility and I might even have heard some applause from the passengers in the back. :)

Somehow lost contact after BF2, but will have a go at BF3 for sure.

I think it is less bad on consoles, I certainly didn't get much trtouble on black ops. Just the odd ocassion.

I really do like cod, I know there are flaws -cbf with the fps rivalries, all good games, people just have thier prefrence for different reasons aka I dislike the vehicles etc-

anyway today is the day, I have preorderd this one. The reason I like cod so much is because all my mates get it also, and it is a lot of fun when were all online just having a laugh (snipers only or knifes only in a private much on nuketown was the bomb). gonna try the campaign on veteran (generally i just do hard).

Did anyone else think that Black Ops sucked after World at War and MW2? I just couldn't get into that game. COD is the only game I own other than GT5 so I have no idea how the series rates compared to other 1st person shooters. But I'm picking this one up tomorrow, hopefully the Black Ops thing was a one-off.

Like I said, I liked it, but more because all my mates played rather then anything else. Also zombies was awesome. I do think MW2 was better, I never played waw online so I dunno about that one.

Apparently MW3 is the best one yet, or so a review i just read says.

edit; its pretty good so far.

fps games should be illegal on consoles though.

You never played Metroid prime did you
(to be fair, the guys who made it call it a first person adventure game instead of a first person shooter, but there's still a lot of shooting involved.)

Usually every new edition is better, but tends to get lower review scores because it didn't change a lot from its predecessor.

I prefer WAW over MW, but that's just because I prefer the setting of a World war. WAW reminds me a bit of Return to castle Wolfenstein. Now that was a great game. But there's more effort put in at the MW series than the WAW series. So if you don't care in what time the game takes place in, I'd advice MW over WAW.
