Critérium du Dauphiné 2012 Stage 7 Sunday, June 10 125 km Morzine → Châtel

A fun short stage with a uphill finish.
Suits Gilbert but BMC will probably work for evans who has a good shot for this one.
Other contenders are chavanel, voeckler, rolland, LLS.
Dani Moreno has a good chance to do a double here too.
Or maybe the break will take it.

No freaking way this suits Gilbert. Col du Corbier will make sure gilbert won't be there at all in the end.

Should be fun stage though hopefully.

Europcar have to try and win this, unless they are saving the circus for July. Plenty of opportunity to attack (if Sky let them).

As for the winner. It's break v Dani Moreno v Europcar I think. Sky will make sure the break will be aught I am sure though.

Can't see why they'd bother tbh.

Evans to win and Wiggins to lose a bit of time since he normally struggles on short sharp climbs.
The finish isn't that steep. 1.5 km 8.7 % shouldn't be a problem for Wiggo in this form.

Voeckler for the win, didn't push himself today so he's no treat for the GC and will show he's in fine form...

He was in the break today  Why would he go into break if he didnt push himslef.

But yeah, likely to go into break. Doubt he's strong enough to win.

How steep is the Corbier climb?

Potentially, a much harder stage to control.
WS has posted the final climb, but the final 3 climbs are:
Km 89.0 - Côte de la Vernaz - 3.2 km climb to 8.2 % - Category 2
Km 102.0 - Col du Corbier - 7.7 km climb to 7.3 % - Category 1
Km 124.0 - CHÂTEL - 1.5 km climb to 8.7 % - Category 3

So difficult gradients. Not huge respite in between.
A pity about the drag up to the finish before the last ramp.
Should suit Moreno or Evans, but most likely a break can go all the way.

Thanks. Promising stage. The Corbier could be a challenge for Sky, but I think at least Froome is strong enough to stay with Wiggins, probably at least one of Froome/Rogers as well. An Evans attack from the bottom of the climb would be an interesting scenario, but probably too much to ask for.

Why would Corbier be a challenge when 3 of them stayed with Wiggins over a tougher climb after a tougher stage?

Fatigue from today? I don't know, getting my hopes up probably. If someone actually bothered about the race they would have been put under pressure. Boring riders.
