What do you guys think is the main reason why British Cycling now has the upper hand in road and track over Australia? Nothing drug related in the question was thinking more along the lines of coaching and funding.

Huge lottery funding in preparation for the Olympics and grabbing experienced Australian coaches such as Shane Sutton was a good start.

Coaching and funding is easier when you have a National Lottery and another 40 Million people to draw from. Hardly surprising.

What's surprising is how well Australia has done over the years in this sport. Not just in terms of relatively small population but remoteness from Europe which is the center of the road cycling Universe. Thankfully due to pioneers like Phil Anderson the European teams know good riders can come from down under so it's easier to break into the Euro scene than in Phil's days if you've got the will and talent.

Don't worry the Aussies will come back it's only a matter of time :D
