Hello! I’m Sander Lowette, a Product Development student at the University of Antwerp. For my master’s thesis, I’m researching how people who live and work in the same city use their bicycles and how they carry their belongings during daily activities.

I allowed it: see moderation thread for further discussion, and by all means try to persuade me otherwise there. But this is the enthusiast (which probably includes such non-enthusiastic activities as commuting) section, so seems the appropriate location. I'm assuming it is harmless and is what it says.

I carry baggage - well, stuff... not a huge suitcase - on my bike all the time.
It's not a road bike, mind you, just a regular bike. I do however mostly use it on the road.

I use my bike to get to work - and meet with family - during the summer, but then I stop at some point during the fall - already have this year - and don't ride my bike at all for several months, before returning to bike-based transport.

I think Armchair best explained it and I am fine with that. The post in question is in the Enthusiast section of the site and that might encompass those who commute or carry baggage.
But if you think about what the overwhelming majority come here for (including yourself ?), it isn’t because they use bikes to commute and carry baggage. It’s because they are fans of competitive cycling.

Yes, I'm here because I'm a fan of competitive cycling.
However, finding a dedicated forum for just... cyclists is probably gonna be a bit hard, considering that it's just transport.

I saw a guy earlier today, just casually riding along with at least one - possibly two - of these:

It's sort of funny that the only absolutely explosive area of bike racing and bicycles is having the ability for huge old school style paperboy bicycle tires...and ability to carry baggage!! And " race bikes " are being marketed by some as one bike solution!! You can carry baggage and do club rides and crits on 1 bike!! Manufacturers figuring ways to use steerer tube cavity for storage, having removable secret doors that allow you to pack down tube w junk, clothing and tools. Enough attachment points so you can put enough luggage to rename bicycle touring to trendy " bike packing ". New race style has guys and gals wearing parachute sized backpacks filled with everything including kitchen sink. Luggage mounted on top tube, handlebar bags, under the seat bags, bags that fit in spaces between top,down,seat tubes!! Luggage everywhere you look. Multiple holes in your forks for mounting luggage!! People rolling out for a race, looking more like a deer or bear hunt into the wilderness!! In metro areas I see people with luggage all over.. and now part of the trick is how much luggage to pack..Belgium Waffle now has people making videos about what they brought in their bike luggage!! Expert race instructions on what to put in your luggage if you want to succeed or survive Unbound.
If you had told me that manufacturers would ever again accommodate a 3rd water bottle cage, I would have thought you were high
For those saying luggage discussion has no place in racing forums maybe are not paying attention to racing.
Soon we will require what cooling vests or fans are needed to " race" stationary bikes. Spinning class goons once the outcasts because you are not riding a bike, but sitting on one are now recognized by UCI as racing. Maybe there will be a new category for indoor injuries, bike racing without the hassle of the road,danger, drafting, bicycle skills of any kind.. Bike racing without all those pesky skills getting in the way!!!
