Cycling Safety Survey

Hi everyone,

I am currently conducting some private research on cycling safety and how cyclists conduct themselves on the highway. This has no commercial basis and I have no commercial interests in cycling or cycling products. I trust that people using this website will treat this in good faith and respond to this research by completing a short Cycling Safety Survey from the attached link. It will only take a few minutes and your input is very much appreciated. I am hoping to get sufficient responses soon so that I can provide some meaningful analysis to the results but I am still short of those numbers. I am happy to return here and post any results if you wish. I am also happy to receive any constructive comments to the survey.

Many thanks

I took the survey, I don't see anything nefarious about it.

I think it would be okay for others to do so as well.

I expect the results to be posted as soon as they're available.

I'd also like to know your angle in this, it doesn't seem like a random survey. You seem to be looking for a specific pattern.

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for you support. I appreciate the comments. I have received quite a bit of criticism from a number of sites and there does seem to be a general suspicion that I have some kind of agenda. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am doing this purely out of interest and like to work with statistics for fun. Makes me sound a bit boring yes but no suspicious agenda.

Curious to know why this is private research rather than a university and/or publicly funded study.
Please, do tell.

Thanks for completing the survey. I am doing this just out of interest. I am not affiliated with any University or educational body. I am just curious basically to see if I can get any interesting results. I ride everyday on busy roads and it always makes me think what goes through peoples heads. Anyway I like playing with stats - all pretty boring I guess.

No problem!
I know you're not affiliated with a university, but I'm curious to know the hypothesis you're working on.
Who's to say it's boring? Not me; otherwise I wouldn't have contributed.
Just curious to know what you plan to do with the results you find.

I also took the survey. Happy to do so. I undertook a similar survey for a HS project many years ago.

It seems to categorise cyclists' attitudes to road rules. To that end, it may have benefited by allowing riders to further identify their approaches to the activity, ie, commuters, fitness riders, club riders, active racers, MTB trail riders, ride with kids or family, etc., along with type of bicycle mostly ridden. It does contain riding frequency and age-group, and they are useful parameters, but the above may also have helped refine attitudes.

Do you plan another survey on motorists' attitudes towards cycling and cyclists that could appear on a relevant website? That could give a more complete attitudinal survey among road users.

Best of luck! :)

Hi there I appreciate the comments. Look I must apologise my first attempt to respond to the comment was through the "report this post". I will contact the Admin and say this was done in error. Basically I am looking for relationships in attitudes to cycling safety and cross border differences. For example I am seeing the UK has a very rules driven attitude compared to other countries

I wasn't planning to but I will see how I go with this one. If I can get sufficient responses there will be quite a lot of stats to work on with the current parameters. However as you say there is so much potential to find out more.

I completed the survey and left my email address...

Crikes, I already get all kinds of spam for Viagra (even though I'm a woman), I figure leaving this particular address with this poster can't hurt me any.

No problem - all email addresses remain confidential. As you might be able to see the site is hosted by Google Forms so the site is completely safe.

Ha! Thanks for the heads up. Makes me wonder how many of my mostly inane comments have been reported. All best, and looking forward to reading the results.
