Cycling Shoe Issues

I have been trying to ride my road bike with a pair of 2006 Specialized carbon road shoes that I paid roughly 180 for back in the day. They killed my arches back then and still do each time I try to get back on the road bike. I am a moderate overpronator (I work at a running store) and bought the yellow Superfeet insoles thinking they would help. They didn't and my arches still ache. I have tried loosing the straps and adjusting the cleats to a different position. and adjusted my saddle, etc.

I have a pair of specialized sport MTB shoes from 2007 that don't hurt my feet at all. From what I understand it is a bad idea to use the mtb shoes and pedals because there is no float and it could lead to injuries. Other than buying new shoes, what are my options? I am probably going to go when I put my mtb pedals on my roadie see how it feels. Thanks in advance.

Stop effing around and get a pair of Sidi Genius (any version). You'll never go back.

Specialised shoes have a 3 deg varus sole you my have too much varus
get some wedges and put them under the cleats to correct this .
Specialised are generaly a wide fit shoe so SIDI"s wont come anywhere near you even the E fiting.
Dont have a link to the web page for wedges but Google cycling shoe wedges and you will find all you need to know
I am using Nike at preasent they are also wide fit with flat sole Carnac are also wide.
The shoe needs to fit snug without biteing

most, if not all mtb pedals are designed with adjustable float so that shouldn't be a problem. there's a tendency for a "hot spot" on long rides though, because the pressure is concentrated on a smaller portion of your foot (the part on top of the cleat). road cleats are larger so the pressure is spread out. you might want to try something like the crankbrothers candy pedals. they're lightweight enough and have a bit of a platform so the pressure is spread out as well.

I, personally, agree with this statement.

I would recommend going to a couple shops, and try on different shoes yor are interested in. A half an hour standing in shoes, after narrowing down your choices, always worked for me

Spend a half hour talking with the mechanics

A good shoe is one you forget you have on

Never ever a problem with hotspots in geniuse's carbon or nylon soles. Sidi's come in diff widths also

SIDI shoes are the worst shoe I have ever had
1 they arnt strong enough 2 they are too narrow even the E fitting.
Everyone is different so we cant realy advise anyone else.
I know if you have varus ankle that shimano will hold it in place for ever
they are the strongest sole of all the carbon soles but they dont make a shoe to fit me properly.
Over the years I have just about tried all of the shoes and pedal systems.
but for some reason I still keep going back to my old ones.
Do not get a size bigger to get a wider fit it wont work the cleats will be in the wrong place
