Cyclingnews Down?

From about half the day yesterday (November 3rd) and continuing this morning (until now) I couldn't access cyclingnews.com. It has happened a few times in the last few weeks. Anyone else having this problem? And yes, I could access other internet sites.

Possibly your ISP server or where you are in the world. No problems here in Oz. although we do get them sometime we dont get on CN at all for a whole day.

Maybe my employer is allowing me only so many cyclingnews.com visits a day. :) I don't know how else to explain it.

I think there is a bug in the site that shows up very infrequently. You get an error message that makes it look like the whole site is down, not only for the forums but also the main site. Clear your browser's cyclingnews cookies and the problem goes away.

On the rare days I have to go to the office I can connect my Macbook to the Starbucks in the building. My employer allows Cyclingnews but not the forum from my work PC. I get a laugh every time I'm blocked and the reason is "social networks". They have obviously never been in the clinic.

Happened again yesterday and today. Cleared cookies and no luck. Out for most of the day today, then a few minutes ago started working again. I hadn't re-booted or re-opened browser. Strange.

uptime

There's no reported down time for the site. It is monitored from all around the world to make sure if it is up.

In the first instance you should contact your ISP as we cannot see into their network to find out why things are not working for you.

No worries really. I just thought you guys would like to know about someone having problems accessing your site. I guess I could be the only one.

However, given that I can access any other website I try during the times I can't access cyclingnews, I don't know why it would be a problem with my ISP.

The site does not go down. You get diverted to an error page that is white with no styling and some simple text on it. I wish I had a screen shot. If it happens to anyone then they should take one.

It is not an ISP issue because I have had it happen with different ISPs. I theorize that it is an issue with a cookie getting munged somehow and your end kicking the user over to an error page that makes it appear that the site is down. I think this because the last time it happened I specifically deleted all the cyclingnews cookies, and as soon as I did so I could access the site. I had no problems accessing other websites while I was having issues with cyclingnews.

Truth be told, many months ago I spent many days thinking that CN was down. It was only when I brought the site up with a different computer that I realized that it was not.

Happened again today. Deleting cyclingnews cookies and restarting browser seemed to fix it. The funny thing is that when I have looked before I am not showing any cyclingnews cookies.

I have gone a day or so thinking cyclingnews is down as well. I just figured Armstrong had had enough with the doping forum and nuked its headquarters.

Take a screenshot of the error message.

It just says this (I deliberately typed wrong site name):

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at http://www.cyuclingnews.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
http://www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

And then has a box for Try Again.

That's a browser error and has nothing to do with cyclingews' site.

I should mention that I had the same problem with Firefox for quite a while in October. Only came back to it in November. The error I got was

"Bad Request"

(I reported it to CN at the time because it was happening to me on all computers I had access to - all 15 of them)
