derailleur issues

I recently changed chain on my bike. I run SRAM chain and cassette on a DA 10 speed set up. Never been a problem.

After changing chain the gears were skipping a little, changing gear by itself when I accelorate. (casette is not worn down)

I decided to retune the indexing on the derailleur. I have done this before after changing chain.

When i was turning the barrel adjuster the attachment came loose, and the spring and screw inside came loose, I managed to just about reconnect it all (but it looks worn out and the should the screw thing be disconnected from the derailleur?) but then I had real trouble reconnecting the cable to the derailleur.

Once I had done that I found it impossible to shift up beyond the 14 - the lever just won't move.

Normally i'd go to the bike shop....but it's high season and waiting for a fix will be weeks. Amusingly I am an ex elite rider who attends therapy for exercise addiction, and part of my "detraining' involves riding and club racing, so a few weeks without the bike fills me with dread ;-)

anyone have any tips?

Is the barrel adjuster broken at the rear derailleur? Broken in half? When you adjusted the rear derailleur, did you make sure the shifter was on the highest gear(smallest cog) position? Is the der cable under the RD plate, not through it?

Email this gent..he's is Dutch and can help you. Maybe he's close also, he lives in Zwolle.
