Di Luca Ban Suspended 9 Months Early by CONI

From that article

'he recently provided key information to a prosecutor in Padua investigating the diffusion of CERA in cycling.'

Wonder if its related to this

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/torri-suggests-doping-is-rife-in-cycling

'Torri is currently working with eight Italian police districts that are investigating doping cases and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, has recently been contacted by police about a ninth and much bigger investigation.'

Anyway, looks like he is not hiding anymore behind the excuse of 'why would i test positive when i know i am going to be tested.' (paraphrased) Wonder why he did test positive, is there any info on that? (i know there are several theories).

i wonder how helping CONI will go down with the rest of the peloton. maybe he should seek advice from filippo simeoni.

He'll be fine, I don't think the current patron is a sociopath.

Besides, he'll have Gilbert and Kreuziger there to protect him.

it is rumoured he has offers from geox and farnese vini. 3 anti-doping strikes and he's still back racing. this guy's a cat.

As much as I don't like dopers, it's good news that he's helping CONI. I always liked Di Luca anyway, plus the Giro just got a bit more exciting.

Geox would have a pretty great team with him added on.

Gonna be interesting to see where the investigation goes too.

The Anti-Doping Tribunal of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has announced the reduction of Danilo Di Luca's doping suspension from two years to nine months and seven days..

Shouldn't that say that they've taken 9 months off the suspension? He served a year and 3 months already.

It's getting harder and harder to take these suspensions seriously. By my calendar, two years is 24 months -- not nine. He must have "spilled the beans" and implicated everyone, or maybe, given the corrupt system, paid the right people off. Does anyone else find this whole thing laughable? Under these guidelines, how long will Contador get, 30 days?

I guess that will be hard to quantify, maybe we will find out down the road, but I'm not optimistic. The sanctions seem too arbitrary.

A reduced suspension did not stop him from doping again the last time he was caught buying EPO from his doctor why should it work this time?

Di Luca is a serial doper who has been at it for decades, he will be back to his old tricks February 1st

Well there's been plenty of action from the police and CONI this year, so we can only guess that Di Luca may have been responsible for some of it.

The problem is it's not like he is altruistic and decided to clean up the peloton for the good of the sport.

DiLuca is at the end of his career. It is good to cut him a little slack. Great rider, wonderful human being and he has done so much for the sport.
DiLucas' riding a full season has revived my interest in cycling.
Garzelli ,Basso, Ricco and Scarponi need a little competition.

Gotta respect a survivor...

He seems like the kind of guy who would sell-out Basso's sister in order to get back to racing...

It's only a joke when you compare his case to Kohl's and start to wonder what Di Luca's cooperation really amounts to.

Agreed, with the caveat that I don't know all the details. But to sum up:

Di Luca + less than full cooperation = reduction in sentance.

Kohl + full cooperation = lifetime ban.

Di Luca is free to start racing again because he helped CONI in association with his CERA positive in the 2009 Giro:

CONI is a seriously corrupt federation. They gave Marta Bastianelli a 1 year suspension, but CAS raised it to 2 years after Bastianelli appealed.

Besides, this is DiLuca's SECOND doping suspension. The guy was excluded from the world championships by the UCI a few years ago.

Under the WADA Code, a second offense means a 4 to 8 year ban...and with cooperation, it should be reduced to 2-4 years, not 15 months. But what do you expect from a country that thought the Amanda Knox trial was fair.

DiLuca has been a victim of witch hunts and spiked samples in the past.
The dope testers have shown their bitter jelousy.
Bravo to CONI for setting things straight. + DiLuccas fine shall buy some new drug testing machines.

I have always enjoyed watching Di Luca race, but this is ridiculous. My thoughts have already been mentioned by others: Kohl was hosed, Di Luca probably sold out E Basso, and he should be looking at 4 years to life.

CONI has also used some pretty tough rhetoric in regards to riders from other countries, but, now that it's one of theirs, they're not so tough on the action side of things.
