Bicycle Roller Trainer
I recently got back into biking, but need an outlet during the Chicago winters. I don't like stand trainers, but then found out about roller trainers. They are several hundred dollars to buy, and so I thought I'd look into building one. There is another instructable that covers this, and I used some of those ideas, but had a different approach for making the rollers. I built this to be functional rather than pretty, and the whole thing cost about $50. Here's the other instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Bike-Rollers/

I suspect that given it's a Storck sitting on those home-made rollers, cost-saving wasn't the driving factor.

As for Darwin awards, given there is no flywheel (other than your own wheels, plus a minimal contribution from the PVC rollers themselves) the amount of energy involved is pretty small, like crashing your bike at 5km/h. Even allowing for potential shoddy workmanship, it's gotta be safer than riding on the road.

Sometimes making it yourself is just more fun.

Take a closer look, it maybe a Stork frame but the rest, I'm thinking cost saving was pretty high on his list.

Have you ridden rollers?

I think it's a really cool project. I have ridden rollers for years and can't recommend them enough.
