Do you ever let the hair grow back?

Do you let the locks grow back on your legs?

I typically shave year round for comfort. It is growing back now after a crash out opened a world of hurt. Cant reach. First time in maybe 10 years

So a question for all : is there ever a point in the season where you allow the hair on your legs to return?

I quit shaving years ago. It's an environmental disaster with no benefit unless you really are getting a massage from someone else and that person uses so little oil that they pull the hairs on your legs. The extra shaving kit plus cream or soap, extra time in the shower/bath all constitute environmental waste!

NEVER!!!, well...maybe during the off season when there are no races I'll let it get a little longer than usual before shaving .

But if I'm going to go riding with a group, the legs have to be shaved. Don't want to look like a noob :).

I use sunscreen on my legs year-round, as much for protection against dirt as for the sun. If I forget to put it on, my shins itch like crazy for a day after the ride. It's so bad that it wakes me up at night. Must be something in the local road grit. Who wants to put sunscreen on hairy legs? Not me. I'd have to quit riding completely to even consider letting it grow back.

Well from October through to about March there's no racing on, and its plenty cold so I'm wearing leg warmers for every ride. Therefore no shaving for me in the off season!

I really hate shaving to be honest. I only do it due to sheer vanity and wanting to look like the cool kids . If I can cover them up with leg warmers saves me the hassle.

Never let it grow back. Been shaving the pins for 20+ years so have no recollection of what they would look like with hair, other than freaking ugly of course.

If you don't shave, you're not a bike rider. You're a Fred. End of story. No compromise, no middle ground, that one is a non-negotiable.

I know I'm not a bike ride, I'm a cyclist. The first being Someone who rides their bike in a racing context, the second being Someone who simply rides their bike to get around.:)
Why would I shave my legs in winter, when I'm wearing long trousers all the time anyway? I don't ride in the winter, I just... use my bike to get around.

funny that. the wife opinion is rarely discussed.

I actually kept shaving year round because wifey likes the smooth. in addition the transition period tends to eat through a set of expensive bed sheets and she will have none of that.

for what its worth I am recovering in another bed at the moment. :p

Dude, sorry but you are not a cyclist OR a bike rider if you don't shave. It's just the way it is. It's not logical, it's not rational, but the rules permit no latitude on this one. It's always been thus.

Besides; it all helps to keep warm! :p

Besides; the streets are filled with cyclists, I'll betcha half of those don't shave in the winter. (Actually, I'd say quite a few of the guys don't shave in the summer either...)

Look at these people: All cyclist. Are their legs shaven? I don't know, nor does it matter! :)

Yeaupp! I'm a chick, trying to convince a dude that it's not necessary to shave all year 'round. Feels a bit like Opposite World! :D

RHDane - thanks tho for standing up and shouting the "Fred" comment down. That was just plain s----. Perhaps he was employing sarcasm, but it didn't come across.

I used to shave when I raced - but I'd lay off most of the year. No bfd. Anybody whose mind is so petty that this is a matter of "real" or "Fred" needs a good slap-down.

Haven't raced in years, haven't shaved in years. Other than my chin. Which is currently growing a beard, with the onset of cold weather, and I felt like a bit of a change. And, on the other side, I don't care if another guy wants to stay shaved - none o' my business. Same with a woman who doesn't want to shave at all. None of my business.

Actually, I never did understand that 'Fred' comment. I thought a 'Fred' was someone who dressed up in full team kit, then ends up being overtaken by kids and little old ladies. :p
And given that the majority of cyclists, as in those you meet on the street every day, doesn't wear cycling clothes, how can they be 'Freds'?

Besides; I dunno what you guys do when you shave, but for me in means standing on a wet floor, without my glasses, while holding a sharp object. Really not something I should do more often than absolutely necessary, sometimes... I'm a little too throughout...
I shave in summer, partly because I guess that's one of the few female-things I actually care about, and partly because, as someone mentioned, it just makes it more comfortable to apply sun-screen. And you might be able to guess what my skin is like in relation to the sun... :D

Any time you like, princess ;)

Signs you are a Fred:

1. Hairy legs
2. more than 8% body fat (14% for the ladies)
3. Mirror
4. Chainring "tat"
5. Kit doesn't match
6. kit isn't race fit (see sign 2)
7. tape and saddle don't match
8. insufficient stem slam vs saddle height
9. non-existent or non-sharp tan lines
10. riding slow

How did you go Hiero - 10/10?

Just in case you haven't worked it out yet, here's a nice visual for you. Leg at top = cyclist. Leg at bottom = fugly Fred
