Our blogger and Peace Corps volunteer Christoph Herby sent this message for those of you who wish to donate equipment to the cycling team from Benin. NOTE the fast approaching date to get stuff onto a container in the UK. You can contact Christoph - it's just his name christoph.herby (at symbol) gmail (dot) com.
Hello Friends of the Racing Squirrels!
Thanks for your generous offer to send equipment to the Benin cycling team. As I mentioned, it's a little tricky sending equipment here because the postal service is not reliable.
Last month, we collaborated with the Village Bicycle Project to send donations in one of their containers. We are now eagerly awaiting three complete bikes, four wheels, tires, tubes, and 41 bags of clothing that should arrive in December.
I've talked to VBP again, and they've agreed to let us piggy-back on another shipment.
With so much clothing already donated, we've decided not to include clothing in the next shipment. The team's most pressing needs are frames, components, pedals, tires, tubes, cables, and cleats (especially Look cleats). Of course, whole bike donations are HUGELY appreciated. Any of these items, no matter how old and used, are useful to the team. The team really has plenty of clothing with the first shipment, so the only clothing items that are still needed are helmets and shoes.
This shipment will be loaded by Re-Cycle in London on November 12th. So, if you've got components for the team, please send them to this address as soon as possible:
Re-Cycle
c/o Stef, Abel & Cole,
16 Waterside Way
Wimbledon
London
SW17 0HB
United Kingdon (UK)
Once you have sent a donation, please email me a description of the items so we can be sure that we've received everything. Also, I have created a PayPal account so that we can pay VBP for the space in their container. Please consider donating to help cover these shipping expenses. It costs them $4 per cubic foot for the container, and they are doing us a tremendous favor. The PayPal account is "herby@virginia.edu". Note that this is my PayPal address, but NOT my current email address.
So, in summary:
1- Send donations to London by November 12th.
2- Please donate for the shippping costs.
3- Email me with description of your donation.
4- Thank you!
Just one day left in the 2010 Tour du Faso, and we still have four riders in the peloton!
Cheers from Burkina,
Christoph
