Was wanting to know if studies have been done On drinking tranfused blood rather than injecting? Would you get benifits and would it raise youre haematocrit. After its been digested would the body absorb it and get benifits ....sounds discusting i know i would never do it but just thought id ask the question

I would assume that the effects would be significantly weaker, if existant at all. stomach pH would denature the proteins in the blood.

Thats my theory anyway, based on an A level biology education so im sure someone will be able to correct me, would genuinely like to know the answer!

ROFL.

Wow, you probably think you can drink GH, or take some magical tablet that will increase GH also right??

People should do some simple google searching about things before making threads.

Hm...would I be on Team Edward or Team Jacob?

They could change it to the Tour de Vamps.

Other than some benefits in increasing your caloric intake and some nutrients, nope.

You need to look into the process of digestion.

Despite what the local vampires may say, drinking blood is an excellent way to make yourself vomit.

In the 50's racers thought that drinking bull's blood would give them extra strenght.
One of my racing buddies in the early 60's told me he would occasionnally go to the local slaughterhouse to drink blood ( he used to pull my leg, so I was never sure).

I have read that Louison Bobet (winner of TdF 53-54-55) used to do it too and it was the reason he always ended up with boils in the wrong place.

In a word NO it would NOT do anything except make you feel sick.
Ounce any substance or food passes through the stomach cleavage takes place and the gut will just turn it into food& water. so wast of time so forget that one it wont make you go any faster.

the gains from drinking blood would be from lots of creatine iron b-12 etc... great for endurance types yes no doubt as for epo levels just silly put simply....

The legendary 50s/60s Irish rider, Mick Murphy, claimed to drink cows blood (whcih he would 'tap' himself). He also lived along in a forest shack where he trained obsessively with homemade weights, and motivated himself during a race by smearing 'ATTACK' in blood (his own?) on the walls of his hotel room. At least if this brilliant radio documentary from a few years back is to be believed:
http://www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/convict.html

Even if you have no interest in 1950s Irish cycling, I urge you to listen - and this week would be timely as the 2011 instance of the Ras - which Murphy pulvarized in 1958, just got underway yesterday.
