Druivenveldrit Overijse (50 years) - Mother of all crosses

This Sunday is the most famous of all crosses in Belgium, the "Grapes" Cross in Overijse.

They used to climb up the Tenotsberg (last climb of Brabantse Pijl and Druivenkoers on the road) but last year only in the 1st round because the owner of the prairie just below no longer wanted the riders to pass. The new route is harder but less entertaining in my opinion.

Lars Boom will be present, for the first time against top riders.

Overijse is traditionally a lone cross, now but doesn't a ranking to be prestigious.

Overijse is also the race in which Roland Liboton set a record for eternity, with 16 victories (2 races a year at that time).

My favourite edition is 2008:

I was going to go there in person this week but I saw the weather forecast and just decided to enjoy it at home with a klein biertje. ;) For those of us here in BE, it's also going to be streamed on Sporza.be like the GVA and World Cup events.

I am out Belgium this week, so I will miss the first big return of Boom. Livestreams just aren't the same.

Plenty of mud left in the season.

Overijise

There used to be a 2 man madison race in the 70's with a cross rider riding with a road man.
in 1974 Roger devlaeminck won with Frans Verbeek
eddy merckx was supposed to ride but broke his arm the week before.

Softy !! :D

I'm planning to go to Diegem on Dec. 27 by the way.

Nice to see the prairie back. Boom was a real grinder on this one. Don't think his puncture changed a lot, he really overdid. But it doesn't matter, it was a training session for him.
