I'd like y'all opinions of dynamo generator Hubs.

Although costly I understand

Best output and lighting at slower speeds?

Most durable rain and rough roads?

Can they be set up to charge other things like GPS, Cell phones. batteries???

there seem to be a lot on the market lately.

Yes RDV I know I am ADHD when it comes to deciding on a wheelset or even a discipline these days. ;)

Many years ago Sturmey Archer (SA) offered hub dynamos. However I opted for the clip-on-fork tire-contact dynamo. My father had a SA hub dynamo and it worked great for his commuting in all kinds of weather (his came with a rechargeable battery so his lights remained lighted at stop lights).

Why:
Hub dynamos did not come with QR
Flat tire repair required disconnecting and reconnecting wires.
Do hub dynamos create drag even when not providing power? (I do not know answer).
I could remove the clip-on dynamo for summer riding or racing.

Today battery powered LED bike lights would be my choice today considering light output, cost and weight.

It is less weight to carry spare batteries for non-bike electronic devices.

I currently use battery powered LED light but I have thought of fitting my bkie with a hub dynamo. I think that the drag created is far less than for the tire-contact dynamo or at least you don't notice it as much.
One cool thing that you you see all over Denmark are the Reelight lights which is a kindasorta dynamo that uses magnets on the spokes to generate enough energy as it passes without drag. The light is rather weak and situated low but still I found it cool and great as a backup light.
