That was a stellar race from them, with Carr attacking early and then Powless following wheels ((Mohoric) to bring him up to Carr. I thought Powless might have tossed it away by going too early on the last climb, but he was able to hang on over the top and was the only one to get through the crash corner cleanly.

Apparently he said it was just because he was looking at his Garmin and saw the corner ahead. He said everyone else was too focused on the race situation.

I doubt Powless is going anywhere, unless he steps it up another level next year and suddenly becomes a hot commodity. I don't know how long his contract is, but he didn't really shine at TJV. He's looked great this year, though, and nice to see everything come together yesterday. I don't know what kind of rider he'll be in the future; sometimes confidence comes with victories...he's only 24 so I'd expect improvement of some kind.

It sounds awfully discouraging. He might not have had the greatest results this year but I still think in terms of potential for the near future he was probably the biggest asset of the team. And I may be repeating myself but after the loss of Martinez, Woods and Vanmarcke, the team was already a bit short of talent this year. I hoped they would rebound a bit in this transfer window but they're losing maybe their biggest asset instead. I would be surprised if they were able to bring in someone equal or better to Higuita this year. Chaves is not that person for me at this point of his career. And when I hear rumours about riders like Shaw and Merchan, I get even more pesimistic. It's not like I don't give them a chance to turn out to be any good but the sole fact the team has to resort to such "creative" transfers doesn't bode well- even more so when those are the first transfers we learn about- normally the rumours about the biggest transfers appear first- so while it's no proof that EF aren't going to sign someone more intersting, it's a slight hint it may actually be the case.

It is all about money. There is nothing they can do about it but to pick who they will invest the little money they have. In that respect Chaves is not a bad choice. He is actually a very good choice because he probably was cheap and his upside is good.

It's funny how EF have sent a bunch of riders that seemed incapable of doing anything to Tour de Pologne and still ended up with a stage win. It doesn't happen very often.

I remember that when Julius van den Berg was joining the team, I hoped he would have developed somewhat similarly to Dylan van Baarle, mabye with a bit more emphasis of being a breakaway rider. He has shown very little since then and somewhat disappointed me but at least today he's demonstrated that bit of a breakaway specialist I hoped he would've become.

So on this note today, when everyone that cares about a stage or GC position was mostly up front; seemingly the entire Pink Entourage was channeling the mindset of one of the " a new directors"....and were massed at the back. Just in time to be blocked by the crash that took out the Race leader and others. Is Carthy not paying attention or what?

I don't think Carthy is in top5 GC worthy form here anyway.

Being at the back of the peloton during the "allez opi omi" crash is what made EF finish the last TdF with all 8 riders relatively unscathed so it has its advantages. ;)
Well, then there is that prize.
Magnus Cort must not have attended the team prep meeting today and decided it was actually safer off the front. Smart and congratulations to him!
