Did anyone notice this on Twatter last week :

Race Radio @TheRaceRadio

Who will be the first cycling reporter to write about the use of enemas prior to Grand Tours?

Joey D'Antoni ‏@jdanton @TheRaceRadio wait. Seriously?

Race Radio ‏@TheRaceRadio

@jdanton Yes, seriously. Sky, and others, use them. It sounds kinda odd but drops 2 kg fast

and later this

Tejay van Garderen

You must need a lot of enemas seeing as how you're so full of $h.t.

think I posted this a week back, or on Facebook, or somewhere else.

pretty funny, it raises the stakes from caffeine and potbelge suppositories.

I can see this taking on in hazing parties at frat houses at colleges in the states, inverse funnel. male-g sport, prostrate prostate [sic]

So long as they aren't introducing any substances into their bodies via enemas, I fail to see how it even warrants discussion. It's not exactly a new, high tech procedure. Bowel elimination via enema before a stage has probably been going on since Garin took a train.

it's walsh-level of 'scrutiny'.
looking at the 'grey area' stuff, pretending to 'pose the questions' at sky...meanwhile failing to see the herd of mammoths in the room.

Sounds about right. When Walsh insists that Sky is clean, this must be what he is referring to.

That is harsh. But I agree!
Marginal Gains is hard to come by so why not insist on Enema's,,, has to be something to this besides the obvious CLEAN OUT.

I think it's used to prevent food/sugar assimilation and improve weight loss, not only clearing colon, it could explain extreme weight loss we've witnessed (mainly at Sky) from 2009 onwards.

if you can have aicar, would you use enemas?

enemas more something for skijumpers to consider.
sure, some riders will be doing it, but i strongly doubt it can explain wiggo 2009 or froome 2011 in terms of weightloss without powerloss.

Wiggins was on a special diet for 2012

At the risk of going 'off topic' it was a diet, as in specific food and stuff.

It's the "and stuff" part that holds the greatest interest.

I'll rephrase. it was a specific food diet.

Could be a good thing if you can't "go" naturally. How are Alberto's bowels, do you know?
Look, I know some people regard me as an expert when it comes to Alberto but I really don't know the answer to that question :p

We thought if anyone would know, LaFlorecita, you would. :p :D

so he was on a specific food diet.
who isn't?

so what are you suggesting? That he didn't need enemas or aicar because of the special food diet?

I get uncomfortable just thinking about it :p

Disappointed you don't have the inside information! ;)

I don't suppose you are the only one uncomfortable about thinking about it. I'm not sure why any team or rider should be in the cross-hairs, rather than any other.

Actually anyone who has ever competed would know that you can't beat a good clear-out before the event, but whether enemas are either necessary or in some way reprehensible defeats any logic I know. What others do to have a good dump is up to them. Not for me though.

Sorry, how does an enema induce weight loss? Seriously.
No clue but if you have been carrying a large LOG for a few days it could offer some much appreciated relief.
