http://www.eslgaming.com/news/esl-leads-anti-ped-initiative-esports-support-nada-2170

With this in mind, today we are announcing the beginning of the steps we’ll be taking as an organization in order to determine enforce guidelines and rules surrounding the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) at ESL events.

In order to maintain the spirit of fair play within esports, ESL has partnered with NADA (the Nationale Anti Doping Agentur, which is headquartered in Bonn, Germany) to help create an anti-PED policy that is fair, feasible and conclusive while also respecting the privacy of players. ESL will also be meeting with WADA (the World Anti Doping Agency, based in Montreal, Canada) so they can be actively involved in the making, enforcing and dissemination of this policy to additional regions such as the US, Asia and Australia.

The expertise of NADA and WADA will help ESL to produce a PED prevention program that will encompass all players participating in competitions organized, hosted or produced by ESL. This program will help ensure that all players are provided with the information and structural support they need to help them manage the physical and emotional pressure of professional gaming.

In the meantime, we will taking immediate action to ensure that ESL’s company values of exemplary sportsmanship and integrity are maintained. As such, we will be administering the first PED skin tests at ESL One Cologne this August, with a view to performing these tests at every Intel Extreme Masters, ESL One and ESL ESEA Pro League event thereafter as soon as the official PED policy is established and tournament rules updated accordingly.

We will remain proactive in ensuring all professional players and organizations involved in ESL competitions will be kept informed of the initiative’s progress. Updates on changes to tournament rules including the list of banned substances, methods of testing and potential disciplinary actions for players caught using PEDs and/or admitting to having used them will be provided to players via their respective team managers and/or owners.

I didn't see a previous thread, my apologies if there is one and wasn't sure if it should go in the general doping thread or not.

Should esports even be considered sports? I don't care, I posted this because they are going to start testing for PEDs.

Adderall and Ritalin are spoken about a lot.

Much like their traditional sports counterparts, esports are dogged by the problem of performance-enhancing drug use. The rampant use of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drugs, such as Adderall and Ritalin, is often kept under wraps—but this weekend at the Electronic Sports World Cup, former Cloud9 and current Nihilum rifler Kory “Semphis” Friesen opened up about his old team's drug use at a major event.

While the team was at ESL One Katowice 2015, the world’s largest premiere tournament, each Cloud9 player was under the influence of Adderall.

“The ESL [Katowice] comms were kinda funny in my opinion,” Friesen told CEVO caster and Counter-Strike content creator Mohan “Launders” Govindasamy, “I don’t even care. We were all on Adderall. I don’t even give a ***. It was pretty obvious, like, if you listen to the comms. People can hate it or whatever.”

Govindasamy continued and asked, “Everyone does Adderall at ESEA LAN, right?” Friesen replied, “Yeah.”

In general, any form of cheating via software is punished. I can't find a link, but if cheat in for example a game running VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) your account is permanently banned from playing that game(sometimes other games). Yes you can just buy a new account/game. I also believe they stepped up the punishment over time in the sense that it used to be a duration, 1 year, 3 year, or so, but now it is straight to permanent account ban.

Money to be made! :D

This oddly reminds me of that one side quest in Mass Effect where the Alliance negotiator asks you to get him, essentially, a performance-enhancing drug (a stimulant), which according to him all the top negotiators use.

It's going to be interesting to see how this develops. ESL runs events for multiple games (Dota2, CSGO etc.). It will be interesting if Valve decide to do this kind of testing for The International and the new majors they are going to be running for Dota2. They already have metal detectors for the main event booths to prevent players from taking electronic devices to cheat off, and are making players write their own configs (no downloading allowed).

There's a lot of money in esports right now so cheat prevention is something that needs to happen. There is a $17mil prizepool for a tournament coming up in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be interested to see if they enforce this rule against players with a prescription for the meds.

It's never been that hard to get your hands on some Ritalin through legitimate channels if you decide you want it, so are we going to have some TUE's for those taking it under doc's orders?

I was fairly sure that ADHD meds being used by a lot of pro's in the scene was fairly common knowledge, but you still have people actively cheating in tournaments/qualifiers through hacks, in CS at least, as well. No competitive sport where there is money and fame to be garnered will ever be clean, I guess.

Fact: You can dodge the sniper's ultimate when you blink whilst the projectile is travelling towards you. Adderall induced alertness clearly pays off in games like Dota2.
