And he married a Belgian (Flemisch).
But like Ewan currently, McEwen was Lotto's pocket sprinter for years and was rather prolific at the Tour and Giro. He 's still on Flemisch cycling talkshows every once in a while.
I like Hatch but he gets pretty over-excited himself and has that habit of repeating a phrase that gets annoying.Roche way too quiet for co-comm imo, hes ok in studio but he can't co-comm. Was also annoyed Hatch isn't doing more work for the GCN feed, hes better at business end of races. Blythe is defo a bit over the top lad, but on few key things he tends to call it right, but u have take the good with the bad. I find Lloyd a bit grating at times between his self deprecation & his talk of beer loving in a rare slobbish way
McEwens a good addition, but agree fresh blood is always super helpful, I think Eisel will thrive whenever he comes back after his Bora work
My favourite English speaking duo has been him and Backstedt.Matt Stephens is just a joy to listen to.
He normally does the international comms for Flanders Classics and Amstel Gold, so seems to have little to no commentary spots on eurosport between Milan Sanremo and after Amstel. It would be difficult to do both over that period anyway, as if you look at the bts of Flanders, he was usually on the ground in the huts at the finish before.Roche way too quiet for co-comm imo, hes ok in studio but he can't co-comm. Both are bland and bad at tactics, that makes me scratch my head.Chris Horner rips Nicolas Roche and Eurosport (GCN) commentators:
On his entertaining youtube broadcast 'The Butterfly Effect' the 2013 Vuelta winner poured scorn on their coverage of Itzulia Basque Country after Stage 4.
"Do the commentators here at GCN understand the tactics of yesterday's race and today's race? No they don't........."
"You don't think there's going to be any attacks? You're absolutely a knucklehead Roche."
"Go back and listen to the commentators. It was a running joke of those guys throughout the stage today about every tactical thing they're telling you about in the race. It's completely wrong."
At least Roche can spot when something important is happening and will stop what he's talking about rather than being totally blind to it and continuing to blather on about a theory of the day or who his favorites are. Both are bland and bad at tactics, that makes me scratch my head.
Id say they are one of the best duos on eurosport.Stephens and Roche I find to be very bland.
