Nico Roche I think would be better as an addition to the studio line-up alongside Magnus Backstedt who adds value in both roles. Not happy that Brian Smith is getting marginalised particularly in favour of Adam Blythe who is alright in small doses with the enthusiasm but can get overbearing.

I might have read on this thread that NR is doing French comms for someone. BS does seem to be being edged out this season as they go for a few more recently retired riders, with Blythe particularly increasing his work. I can check but seems to have been an increase in MB too. Maybe just my imagination though.

Possibly although I think its also the time of season where there are more overlapping races thus more work to share round. I would also imagine MB would be in demand primarily for his insights during the cobbled classics. I do think that BS could handle being the lead commentator and not just the guy getting the mic thrown over to offer views on the race situation.

Magnus Backstedt was on Matt Stephens' podcast a couple of weeks ago and I think he said he'd stopped running his bike fit business. It sounded like he now has more time to take his daughter Zoe to races all around europe and help in the pits etc. As so much of the commentary seems to have been done remotely over the past couple of seasons i'd guess Magnus has time to do it anywhere that possesses a reliable internet connection to the race feed and back to eurosport.

I cannot agree with the plainly false idea that Blythe is alright in any dose

Good news for ITV4: I'd sooner put up with adverts for life assurance and stair lifts than Adam Blythe.

Ugh. Stairlifts. Better than Blythe but from memory I’m not fussed on any of the commentators ITV have either. They’re all Ineos fanboys and get starry eyed every time their “G” does an interview.

Instead GCN have gone with Adam Blythe and Robbie McEwen as their new punditry/comms GT team

I ll be listening with the sound down after the first week ..maybe first few days

Give me Kirby doing it solo with Kelly popping in whenever he can be bothered to put up with Kirby.
I’d rather hear about local cafes and useless facts on a long boring sprint stage than Ineos tactics.
