So with the likes of Jose Been, Jens Dekker, and to a lesser extent (possibly) Magnus Backstedt doing commentary this year on British Eurosport/GCN, as well as Nicolas Roche doing something with french television during the TdF, it got me thinking. What/Are there any other cycling commentators (main or co) that have done so in a language that isn't their native language?

Well, Honore has sometimes been commentating on Italian TV.

Jean-Claude Leclercq is a commentator on german Eurosport

This guy apparently exists...

Florian Honore (procyclingstats.com)

Though, by the looks of it, he just went to one race. Part way through said "*** this!" and went home.
For all I know he's been an accountant since then.

And do you think the other poster was aware of that?

Or was he just responding with "Mikkel" because he was surprised of the fact and wanted clarification that he didn't misunderstand something?

Well, the question was about people commentating in a language other than their own, so why would he be particularily surprised about Honore commentating in a language other than his own?

Yeah, what a mystery. So many 25-year-olds do commentary in a country that neither he nor his team is from...

Could it be that lemon cheese cake wasn't aware of Honoré's Italian connection?

You don't understand why I was a little confused that someone could be confused about which Honoré we're talking about? We have established that he's basically the only Honoré - except for some Belgian guy, who turned up to one race, which he didn't even finish years ago - in the peloton.
Of course it's surprising, but isn't that basically what this question was about?
All I was confirming was that you meant Mikkel Honoré as I was surprised he was doing commentary while still racing at the top, compared to someone like Adam Blythe who started doing so as he wound down his career. Similarly i was surprised at seeing Benji Naesen writing about Tiesj Benoot doing commentary (albeit the Blythe and Benoot situation being in native langauge) yesterday on vtm.

It's not much he's doing. Just when he's not otherwise occupied. Guess he is at a somewhat higher level than other "commentates while still active" riders have been.

South Tipperary was not in his lifetime a Gaeltacht area, so the answer is not Irish, but every time I hear Sean Kelly commentate I wonder what language he thinks in.
