Cadel Evans can win the Tour de France this year! HERE'S WHY:

1.TEAM - The riders that BMC have are more than capable of doing the job. Here's a proposed team

Evans
Ballan
Hincapie
Morabito
Quinziato
Moinard
Santambrogio
Bookwalter
Burghardt

With this team they won't lose much time and it is likely that they will feature quite highly and take some time in the ttt against opposition teams. There's good climbers and guys who can also power along the flat lands. The team also has the confidence in him.

2. RACING PROGRAM - From today's article Evans said that he would be doing around 20 less race days pre tour. Last year he did 45 days pre tour like most years. He has announced that he will be doing Monte Paschi Eroica to start his season followed by Tirrenno Adriatico and then the classics. That adds up to 11 days of racing which leaves him with 14 days. So that means he will probably do Pais Vasco and the Dauphine. With this program he should feel fresh and not too tired like he has in past years going into the tour. Therefore he should be able to perform better than before and give himself the best shot he can at winning the Tour de France.

3. RIVALS - Two of Cadel's biggest possible rivals are not racing. Contador and Menchov are out. That doesn't mean there are not other but this bodes well for Evans. It also means that because Schleck is the outright favourite that tactically everyone will or should gang up on them tatically.

I am not saying that Cadel is the favourite because Andy is but I think he can win this year!

btw, Please don't shoot me down for this if you strongly disagree.

Still not a very strong team. He had stronger support (dare I say it?) at Lotto. But yes, he's certainly one of the main candidates for the podium. He'll finish second, probably :p

(oh, and the word you're looking for is "tactically". You know, involving tactics, not tatics.)

I don't see any of his teammates keeping up with him in the mountains when there's 20 or so riders left.

Morabito this year on the stage to Morzine Avoriaz was with Cadel and was on the fron riding for Cadel. Cadel was one of the last guys to have team mates up front.

Cadel's new program is a great move by him. I'd have thought Tschopp would slip into the squad since he's a real climber. With him the team would look much better.

Cadel's big danger will be hanging onto Schleck/Basso when the mountain attack (hopefully more than one attack, but after all we are talking about Le Tour) happens. He's not so good at doing that...

his team is just as horrible as last year for the mountains and besides evans sucks so hard he will never win any gt at all he lacks leadership and focus.

Would you put in tschopp instead of moinard?

Still, climbing support is not one of the strengths of this team. Not if you compare them to, say, Leopard, Rabo, Liquigas, Euskaltel... most other favourites, basically.

rabo have LL Sanchez, who else? Euskatel will lose lots of time in the ttt.

Which is the ideal spot to finish a GT in these days, it seems. I would aim for it, to be honest.

As only the leading sheep on its way to the dam is subjected to a regular wool check, to be processed well after the whole dam has been crossed by all. Trailing sheep, on the whole, are likely to pass fewer and lighter tests for barred fluffy stuff on their backs, especially 4 months down the road, with wool samples discarded after 3, and all.

How about instead of Bookwalter, Hincapie or Quinziato? If you think Evans can win, he'll need to take some time by himself, so don't rely on a pretty short TTT for that.

Well Cadel can't afford to lose time to Leopard in the TTT. I think those guys are required for the team. Wouldn't get rid of Hincapie or Bookwalter. Maybe Quinziato but I still think he is needed.

No. I would probably remove one of Ballan, Quinziato or Burghardt. There is no need to have all of them in the Tour. I might even remove two of them.

My team would probably be:

Evans
Ballan
Hincapie
Morabito
Moinard
Santambrogio
Bookwalter
Tschopp

And then either Santaromita or Van Avermaet depending on how hard they want to go for only GC. On second thought Quinziato might be needed for more TTT strength as well.

I hope so, but its going to come down to team support in mountains.

Looking back, saxo had three potential GC winners plus support from Jens, Canc and Stewy.

In the Giro Basso's team was very strong and no doubt will be this year.

He needs a second GC potential rider.

He was in yellow before the broken elbow, if he can be in same position again, anything can happen.

Van avermaet has said he is not doing the tour!
