This was great to see:

The way he made new friends and forced a new destiny for himself at Bora after last year's Jumbo debacle is an integral part of his extraordinary journey, IMO.

In any case after reflecting on this Vuelta a bit I think anything that comes next... is totally bonus. I mean he entered the history books, he's got 5GT wins, he gave Ralph Denk a GT win (thus justifying the transfer & salary fee) & basically proved he could win with any team - not just at Jumbo.

I think notwithstanding Olympics year, there's basically 9 major prizes in a normal cycling season no matter the rider profile: 5 monuments, 1 world championship road race and 3 GT's. Then there's a bunch of other slightly lesser prizes as well. But those 9 races are the main ones.

Flanders & Roubaix? Van der Poel's playground. Milan-San Remo? It seems way too easy for sprinters (even Pog hasn't won that one yet), Liège? Pog & Evenepoel territory. Lombardia? Pogi again. Worlds? Yeah good luck with that one versus the current one day monsters. That leaves 3GT's.

The Tour? Yeah, no. Not with Pog & Vinge at their current level. That leaves the Giro & the Vuelta. And... Rog just won the Vuelta. So there's a logic in what happened but he also had to actually go & win the damn thing, which is easier said than done. And he did so whilst arguably pushing his career best numbers at nearly 35 years old.

So... chapeau Rog.
The only Tour that counts for him at this point is one he can finish. Today, right now there are unknowns for the major contenders except Pogacar. They've all been scuffed up and come July it's all new. Best wishes to all of them for a healthy start so we can get the dream race we'd hoped for this year.

According to @Gazzetta_it,
🇸🇮
Primoz Roglic will be at the start line of the World Championships in Zürich!
🤯

🇸🇮
Primoz Roglic AND
🇸🇮
Tadej Pogacar in one team? Good luck to their competitors!
Sounds good to me!!!
great, hopefully they compete at Lombardia as well!

Hope it doesn't get too spicy and spark a civil war in Slovenia. There is a real chance of gold + silver for Slovenia here.

Why? Slovenia has two spots for ITT, but Pogi decided we won't race.

Meanwhile, Rogla confirmed to Slovenian media he will also race ITT.
It's not about negotiating spots. It's that I'm more sceptical Roglic would solely come to the Worlds to not do the ITT and then ride the RR solely in service of Pog.

I also think the TT is Roglic' better chance of a medal for himself.

Regarding the WC races, is there still some super compensation effect 3 weeks after the Vuelta has finished? We’ e seen that sometimes at San Sebastion but that usually happens just a week after the Tour. Just curious.
Riders try to carry Vuelta form through to Lombardia regularly.

But Roglic will have no specific prep for the Worlds, and he's not naturally good at 250km+ races, so it's not gonna be easy at all.

Thanks. Don’t see him as a favorite but as a fan it’s nice to have another top rider competing who might shape the race dynamic. Maybe the team will suggest he should be the one to shadow Evenepoel if the latter tries to go solo early. I can just imagine the ruckus in the Remco thread if that were the case :)

This is exactly what national coach announced today. Goal is two medals and ITT will be done by Rogla and in RR they will bet on Pog.
