Farrar's Felt F1 Stem

I was just looking at photos of Farrar's Felt.

I month or so ago there were a few articles about head tube's breaking, possibly related to the stem clamp not completely wrapping around the headtube (just like in the picture), or because there was no spacer above the stem (also like in the picture). http://velonews.competitor.com/2010...rned-about-broken-carbon-steerer-tubes_121389

Anyone heard anything new about these failures? I was a bit worried about my own bike, with an FSA stem, but haven't done anything about it.

Pretty sure those problems were with the 6 series Trek Madones only, and not Felts. I have not heard of any problematic failures of steer tubes except in this case. I would not worry at all.

It looks to me like it's properly attached to the steerer.

I wouldn't worry too much about you stem, coz I'd say it's no more likely to cause a steerer failure than any other, unless it has some sharp edges, which is rare. The last time I checked the 'guidelines', it's also recommended that the compression plug be behind the stem, and not too many spacers should be used. And obviously don't overtighten it. Many people think that stem bolts have to be done up uber-tight, but they don't; they're meant to be loose enough so that the bars move on the steerer in a crash....so I was told :thumb:
