Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed, we had some downtime on the forum last night due to some unscheduled essential maintainance. This has now been completed so we're back up and running. We're really sorry we weren't able to inform you in advance and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks for your patience,

Joe and the CN tech team

Just out of curiosity, was it security-related? Most unscheduled downtime maintenances of fora/websites I've encountered were due to some security-related issues (or bugs encountered during an upgrade). Was our personal and password information, including salted hashes, safe?

There's a whole stack of stuff that can go wrong and need maintenance, so don't jump immediately to the worst case scenario.

This forum system is vbulletin and that application has been around for a good long while, so hopefully they are well passed basic security issues.

Finally, you should use sites on the Internet as if your information has been compromised already. Unique, site-specific passwords are very important.

I doubt anyone who posts here (including mod/admins/etc) actually knows why it was down other than that it was down. They never know anything associated with the site in any way shape or form. The bosses were up to something though maybe they will pipe in someday?

By the way, was the spell checker for new posts implemented in this outage? I never noticed it before, but I like it... I need all the help I can get.

I've always had a spell checker, maybe your browser updated and turned it on?

So I guess it wasn't LA putting the hammer down because of the clinic :)

Well lets not count that out just yet.

Since the thing today im having difficulties with using the site on my mobile. For one the "forum" on the top right is hid behind "features" so if i press it i get sent to features and i have absolutely no desire to read anything written by cn. for another some parts of text that i have written i can't get to by clicking there sonic have to click a few lines later backpack what has been written and start again.

Ahh... Well, I just got an new PC w/Win7 64-bit OS. Using it's IE9, spell checker does not work... but maybe there is a setting in IE to turn on. But I also just got Google Chrome this week and the spell checker works with it when posting. Chrome with adblock is much nicer than IE9. Don't use IE much anymore.

You should issue a life ban on IE. :D

One of our other sites flagged up a potential security risk, which is why the Forum was shut down. After thorough examination no evidence of violation was found, which is why we have now set it fully live again.

Thanks
