Forum malfunction

Curious about the problem with threads that show more pages than are actually there. Was just in the Andy Schleck Thread and it indicated pages 253 & 254, but if you tried to advance to those pages it would leave at what is actual last page. Strange. Same problem occurred last week or 2 weeks ago.

I've been noticing this in a few other threads the past couple weeks as well.

That's the last post I see.

Pssstt...

Busted Thread

Guess you could merge if it doesn't break the forum.

Addendum: Really sounds like the database supporting the forum is bursting its britches, time for an upgrade of some sorts, DB or hardware, possibly jettisoning some of the old threads or archiving them in some form or another.

Yes, I thought it might be my iPad...:p
It shows more pages but won't go there....

Edit: not sure if you could merge with busted thread as it is happening with several threads and may not be related to certain ones...then you'd be reporting very thread busted after awhile.

Btw 'busted' yanks my chain as it is shaky grammar and a pet peeve of mine...rather it would be 'broken'

Hello

I noticed this a few weeks ago: on my phone I sometimes get a completely blank page with just cn logo and 3 or 4 ads. Sometimes it doesn't happen and on some days I have it every time I load a page, sometimes I have to refresh a page 5-6 times because each time I do not see a forum. Does anyone recognize this problem?

Search gone bad

The search function doesn't seem to be working correctly.

It doesn't seem to be accessing posts or threads more recently than 2012.

To further test it, I entered "Armstrong" into the search. But still the most recent items were from 2012. I have a sneaking suspicion that his name has come up, at least once or twice, since 2012.

Something seems to have gone astray with the database.

I'll leave the conspiracy notions to others...

my guess is that the search function doesn't collect more than 500 threads.
Try any other keyword, it works :p

edit: actually everything works to me.

Thanks for the response.

Odd though, it only works for the regular "simple" search, not the Advanced Search, which is what I always use.

On some terms (very common ones) I did get a Database Error message when using the advanced search. It still won't recall anything more recent than 2012.

Perhaps the programmers had just assumed the world would end by then anyway?

Advanced search works like a charm for me :)

I was searching for one of RR's posts. When I simply put "Race Radio" into the search window (after trying countless other more specific terms) I get this:

Database error
The CyclingNews Forum database has encountered a problem.

Surely you wrote Race Radio under 'Search by User Name' and not 'Search by Keyword'?

Maybe I can find what you are looking for. What is it?

edit: Just did a search, and RR didn't quote you a single time in 2012  :p #random

edit2: BTW I realized one of the special powers modship gives you only after no longer being a mod. Back then I could search numerous times. Now there have to be 20 seconds between each search. Outrageous!

Nope. Think about it, wouldn't there be numerous posts about the subject of "race radios" in numerous threads? But still I get the database error window.

Normally, if you enter someone's user name into the keyword window, you will get a list of posts both by that user and by other users who have quoted them. I've done this countless times to track down old posts (much to Zam's amazement :p)

And yes, the 20 second wait time is maddening.
