So...

Option A - doping is less prevalent, or now offers a lower benefit than it did before the bio-passport, so clean frenchmen have half a chance.

Or,

Option B - Frogs are on the sauce too.

And I wouldn't use a performance of 2 riders (okay 3 with Voeckler) to try to guess what the whole country of riders is doing.

Just a bit of fun - there's a slight clash of two prevailing orthodoxies, and I'm interested to see which is strongest in this instance.

I doubt the French are white and there must be stains, but it is a very serious matter in France if you are caught doping Non?

I don't doubt that there are a few French riders at least who dope, and Gadret, Voeckler, Fedrigo, and others, could be among these. Whether this happens with the knowledge and consent of the DSs, is difficult to determine.

I am pretty convinced, however, that there is no structural doping program (a la Liberty Seguros, US Postal, Telekom etc.) in place in any of the French teams.

Yes, broadly speaking mine too. I don't think that there's an in house program at any of the major French teams - if there is, they are taking a huge risk and it has to be said getting a very poor return on their money.

On the other hand, in a country with such a huge number of professional cyclists, there is absolutely no chance that all are clean.

I went for Option A because I would agree that some riders are not doping (not limited to French nationality) and that I have the strong impression of a two-speed peloton. For me, the most interesting races to watch are the ***-small races.
