I was always interested in the development of Metrigears new power meters as they are situated in the pedals. But was a little cautious being a new product and all. But now that Garmin has jumped on board, I am starting to get excited. You would think Garmin wouldn't partner up with a faulty product. Can't wait to get myself a Garmin GPS speedo paired with one of these Power Meters. They are suppose to be able to allow you to see the power of both legs separately as well as together. Suppose to be out this year sometime and the Power meters should come in under $1000. Not sure if this is still the case. Anyway here are some links

I think they will sell like hotcakes.

They are interseting for sure but no way they will be under $1k.

Strain gages are ridiculously cheap. If Metragear's design works there is no reason they should not be under $1,000 without a head unit.

Unfortunately the price bar for power meters has been set at ~$1500US by the ones already on the market, which all seemed cheap compared to an SRM a few years ago. Unlike most technology, they haven't gotten any less expensive as more competition and higher sales volume over time usually dictates. Of course, Garmin could surprise everyone with a $999.95 price tag, but I'm pretty sure they are banking on the better features of the Metrigear pedals to sell them like hotcakes no matter what the price (within reason).

Well, I am also interested, but to be honest I think that they must have run into problems in RND/ production as multigear said these items would be out last year and yet they still need another year on top of that?? I wouldn't hold my breath.

It would be great though, easy to change to another bike as well!!

Perhaps cash flow problems, economic crisis, etc had more to do with that than a faulty product. I think the article does refer to some minor physical issues they were trying to overcome. If they get it right though, I can see them dominating the powermeter market. The others will have to reduce their prices to compete.
