Another quality Ryo Hazuki post! I'm surprised you were watching De Ronde, there are no Colombians in it.

JV takes top quality riders and makes a waste of their talent with tactics for losers. I am sure his classics rider stars will transfer out of that loser-hole.

I don't think JV is an awful DS, and I don't think Garmin is an awful team, but they have really sucked in the classics this year. I am not sure JV really knows what to do in the classics, I think he should stick to the GTs (where he has produced some pretty good results from his team) and hire someone else to manage the spring campaign.

Well, they did win the precious bunch sprint they were waiting for...

What's worse about Garmin is that they're not admitting any of their mistakes so far this season.

We heard JV but I wonder what van Petegem was thinking and saying?

There's something very amusing about the bile Vaughters attracts from some here.

The interesting thing about Garmin today wasn't that Vaughters made what was a sensible tactical decision. If the only rider you have left with any legs is a sprinter, you hang on and hope for a bunch sprint. The interesting thing about them was the very fact that the only rider they had left with any legs was Farrar. That's a very poor performance when you consider how strong their squad is on paper.

yes, weve been discussing it in the race thread for about an hour now. You should pop in.

I think Vaughters is a good guy whose heart is in the right place, but that was really ****ing embarrassing. I don't care what the race situation is, don't be such a ***edoted by mod****. You've got to go for broke in a race like this. Nobody remembers who got 5th, win or lose, but don't leave anything on the road.

I beg to differ. Everyone will remember Farrars 13th place or whatever it was today.

JV has no place in racing. He should go and peddle his little gadgets to freds. How would anybody consider having this loser in charge of a more 'interesting' cycling league is beyond me.

Some people really do not understand tactics. JV made the right call, the group came back together, his guys just did not have it. With the exception of BMC all the other DS' made the exact same call.

Call JV a pompous douchebag but I would have made the same call, especially when my guys are barely hanging on.

If he indeed only had Farrar and Hushovd, then frankly whether they pulled or not is pretty irrelevant. This race doesn't really suit them. Farrar could get a good result, a podium or whatever if the circumstances were right, but he's not the kind of rider who could alter the circumstances to make them right for himself. He's still very much a sprinter. A top form Hushovd might be different, but I still think Flanders is too tough for him.

Basically I agree 100% with Zinoviev.

The fail was Garmin's riders not having the legs and possibly Hushovd working just before Boonen's attack. At the point JV told his riders not to work only Thor and Tyler were left, no workers. BMCs entire team was in that group. No way Tyler or Thor should have worked. They didn't have the legs to hope for anything other than a group sprint.

Never even been a Garmin fan, but I think it would have been ridiculous for him to have advised otherwise. I think it sounded bad at the time, especially when people were thinking it might be another long boring Canc victory, but if you really look at the situation, what else should he have done? I think people just love to hate on JV and Garmin these days.

Hushovd (like flecha) is better at PR .

I dont think I have ever been critical of Garmin or JV for that matter but when I heard him say dont ride on the radio, I though WTF, that is BS. I agree with others who dont care what the race situation was, ride for the win. I was so happy when none of them made the final break.

Perhaps this was JVs deliberate backwards way of vindicating team radios and cameras in the car, look at how much attention it has received already. He could argue it added to the drama and spectacle of the race.

To be honest of all the team car visits, only that JV "stop riding" or W.Peeters explaining why Chav wasnt working were of any interest. Of and course Saxo Bank celebrating but that werent live.

Agreed. Sending Thor and Tyler to the front to work would have only done one thing, insured that they would have been dropped sooner when the action heated up.

I think the fact they didn't give it a go said a lot. They just gave up. Pretty much what vaughters told them to do.
